Touring on the SD

Wanting to do some trips on my SD, all the rack and luggage options I've seen are pretty damned ugly.

No rack needed, and when you pull the bag off, it's off. No screws or tabs mounted to the bike.
I'm sure it would take some fitting to keep it off the pipes and such but what do you guys think of it?

I know the SD is not a Goldwing, but it would beat doing long miles on my LC4.

They even make them in orange !!!

Not planning doing a tour on mine , but that thing seems to hold a ton of stuff,, with a tank bag I think your good to go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,orange bike orange bag,,,,,,,,,not exactly cheap though is it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I've seen the Ventura rack for the SD, but really don't like the way it looks at all.

And I would still need more storage for a trip of more than a couple days.

Nope, no SD yet. I'm not surprised as I don't think there is that many people who are going to do long trips on an SD.
But since I don't have an Adventure yet, I'll use what I have. And the SD is such a fun bike to ride why would I not want to take longer trips on it?

Since it's snowing again now I don't need to rush into doing anything, I'll keep looking at luggage systems.
Only thing I don't like about the Giant Loop bag is the scratches it will put on the side panels.
Maybe I'm too picky, I don't mind the off road bike being scuffed but not the Superduke.

Hmmm, that looks pretty good too. I'm leaning toward anything that does not use a permanently mounted rack.

I have toured all over thr Pacific Nortwest on sport bikes with soft luggage, even 2 up. This is one nice set up from what I see. It is a design that I have had rolling around in my gray matter for some time. What I do to protect the body work is first wax any body work that will be under the soft bags. Cut clear shelving / book cover stuff that is self sticking and stick it on. Make dang sure you wax first. I got in a rush one time and did not wax and the clear coat on my bike came off with the cover. Another way to go rather than the stick on covering that I did after I lost my clear coat was to cut panels of felt to place under the soft bags. It's easy to toss the felt in the washer after the trip. I used electrical tape to hold it in place. What is nice about this system is you can remove this fast and have no funky hard bag brackets. I also have a Ducati ST4S that came with hard bags and I removed the brackets. I know I can easly tour on the SD. I put 86K on my 1986 Ninja 600. A lot of it 2 up. I have 90K on my 1992 ZX7. This SD is alot more cozzy than those bike for a long haul. Its fun to camp on Mt. Rainer, set up camp and ride the roads before all the tourestas wake up. Hey this has to be good. I think Its from Oregon, my state.

This is the bigger bag, the Coyote would probably be enough.
