#5I ran Corsa IIIs on the SD at Big Willow last October. They started to give up the ghost in the afternoon. Both the front and back were sliding around.
You can see in the PIC how the edges started looking greasy.
I did a couple of sessions on my GSXR that afternoon. (I had let a friend run in in the AM and we switched.) The GSXR was shod with Power Ones. This was the second track day on those tyres - the first at Streets.
Those fooking tyres are amazing. They never slip a nanometer.
I'm going to try to squeeze another day out of them this Friday at Fontana. If they suck, or don't pass tech, I plan on throwing a set of Michelin slicks on. I haven't tried slicks yet, so I can't recommend them.
I got this set of Power Ones for $275 off e-bay but have never found a like deal. They are expensive, but you won't be disappointed.

At our tracks you can get a set of current race compound Pirellis for well under $400. Just slightly more than the retail price of a rear. On top of that, stores charge like $30 to change tyres with wheels off the bike.
Lowrance, if you give me a heads up I will bring down 3 "perfectly good for track day" rear take offs for $100 to sell to you.
I would bet that the Michelin guy would mount them for you for free just to see you switch to Michelins.
I don't have any DOT front available though.

#19Something I did notice at Fontana last race I did there was that they didn't open the petrol pumps. It is a race track for crying out loud.
It forced myself and others to buy race gas. Fortunately I had a map for it.
I only noticed how much was sold because in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia
the vendor disposes of the empty cans or the track charges the club something like $100 a can for disposal.

#21The Q2's should do fine, especially in the spring when it's still cool out. Street tyres don't require as much heat as race tyres to perform well. They WILL fade on a hot day if you're pushing them though. Using race tyres (DOT's, slicks) I feel is unnecessary until you've got tyre warmers, consistently slipping on street tyres, and can afford tyres that are nearly twice as expensive as street tyres. Race tyres require heat to work. Chances are you will not get the required heat if you're in the beginner group and could wind up cold tearing them. Plus the SD doesn't have tyre stretching power (or weight) where you really notice the tyres flex and stretch.

A pair of Q2's just showed up on my porch the other day to use at Jennings GP in Florida next month.
