Trailer

I know using a trailer is a little gay, but I'm making the center of my rear tyre flat taking long, boring freeway rides to get to twisty roads (and when I get speeding tickets it's usually on the freeway). So, I've been looking at trailers that will carry two bikes. I think these look good - more expensive than utility trailers but lighter and with wheel chocks:

What trailer do you use?
What do you like or dislike about it?

I've never used either one but years ago I had a trailer that I used for bikes. It was a alumium one with 15" wheels. From what I remember a lot of trailer wheel axle bearings are on the light-duty side. Keep an eye on the bearings and wheels and you should be in good shape.

My father and I just purchased a 2008 Car Mate Sportster 6 X 12 enclosed trailer. Although we haven't picked it up yet, we aren't new to the trailering world. We have used several open trailers in the past but have turned to the more secure and cleaner enclosed trailer. It will fit our two bikes SUperduke/hyper motard in a staggered formation with plenty of room for storage. The trailer has all alluminum roof and sides with a 3000lbs axle. It also comes with all LED lights as standard for $2999.99 Canadian!

Frank - thanks for the reminder. The trailers I've looked at all suggest repacking the wheel bearings even more regularly than the SD requires service. Just what I need - another chore.

Joe - I think I saw what you are talking about, and I think it is a great idea. I probably will be towing two bikes regularly. Have you seen one of the hitch attached things you describe for two bikes? Maybe too heavy?

Howes - That sounds like a great deal. I assumed an open trailer would be lighter and cheaper to tow. Do you find that the enclosed trailer is much better and so worth the price? It would be nice to tow the SD in its own little house.

Wow. That is an amazing price. Even the cheapest utility trailers I've looked at are several hundred dollars. How does it do in action? Reasonably smooth and tracks well?
