Then She came into my life. She, is a 25 year old pregnant woman in a blue Buick Regal. She decided that she wanted my lane more than I did, and changed lanes on top of me. I tried to get through, and last ditch hop the curb, but I was geared wrong and didn't have the grunt to do it in the nanosecond that I was able to ponder solutions.
We went down, onto the left side, hard, and then slid across the intersection where Madison (my Duke) went into that curb front wheel first. I was turtling around on the road, and missed what else happened to the bike, but it somehow came to rest on its RIGHT side.
Luckily, I was wearing brand new riding boots, leathers top and bottom, gauntlet gloves and my helmet. I hate to think what would have happened had I been geared less.
She was cited for improper lane change and driving with license suspended, 2nd degree, and the blame was placed upon her solely.
The bike is a mess, and I honestly can't say what they'll do. I'm not looking forward to having another Duke in ANY color than Anthrazite. My gear is a bit worse for wear, with the jacket needing some repair work, and the helmet and gloves needing replaced.
I have a small bit of rash on my side where my jacket rode up, a good sized bruise developing in the same region, and my left shoulder is screwed up. No broken bones, but it'll be a few days before we can tell if there is more damage in the softer bits. I'm in a fair bit of pain, and the drugs ain't doing much.
At any rate, thats the deal. Wear your gear.
