Does anyone on here change there own tyres ? if you do can you reveal the secret of getting the last bit of tyre over the rim before another lever flips out and scratches my rim again

#3Make sure the rest of the tyre is pushed down as far as it will go, plenty of tyre soap. I have the luxury of a machine I can use, so fortunately haven't struggled in a while.

#7no probs mate but yu will get scratched and dented rims
got a bead breaker and balancer, the breaker is brill but cant get the tyre back on lol, also got a balancer but cant use it yet

#8easy , you just have to make sure the bead your putting on is in the deepest part of the well.(normally middle of the rim)

#9Keep top and bottom side of tyre pushed towards centre of the wheel rim and the last part of the tyre should just flip on easy. Stand the new trye in the sun or next to a radiator to heat it up slightly before fitting also helps and use some tyre soap ,i can just about get my road tyre's on by just using my hands only as they (tyre's) are that soft.
MX tyre's are a bastid in comparison and require a bit more bicep,but the same principel applie's.

#10This time of year does make it very hard compared to warmer temps.
Youl need 2 sets of rim protectors for a start, 2 tyre irons is plenty, i use wax free spray polish such as Mr Sheen on the rim of the tyre/wheel to make fitting a slippier easier affair!
The trick is when you have the lower half of the tyre over the rim, kneel down on the tyre thereby squashing it so it slots into the centre of the rim (if you look at the profile of a rim the centre is lower than the sides, when the tyre sits in this centre it gives the tyre those few extra mm`s to enable the top to go over. If you do it right you dont need the tyre levers for the top part of the rim
Ive changed tyres a few times now and practice really does make a huge diffrence. So far ive found Dunlop NTECS to be the hardest to fit onto rims as the sidewalls are very stiff!
Beed breakers are unneccessary, just use a lawn edger (see UTube). The most expensive part to buy is the tyre balancer. Ive also found that unless you have a dented/bent rear rim then its not worth balancing the rear wheel!
I did a thread on this subject last year (june ish) listing all the bits a bought, then its just a case of practice.

As the advertising says, it truly is no mar and doesn't scratch rims. Even if the rims slip in the chuck, they don't get scratched. It makes tyre changing pretty easy, but it does take a some force to get that last bit of the second bead over the lip of the rim. One tool that helps tremendously is the Yellow Thing (http://www.nomartirechanger.com/products/10) It keeps the bead from creeping. Watch the videos. The videos help one understand the process (like keeping the bead in the center of the rim as Stew said above) - even if he/she is not using the no mar machine.
I met the company's owner at the LB Moto show. He offered to give me a job demonstrating the machine next year. He said I'd learn how to do it effortlessly and make money at the same time. If this economy doesn't improve, I may have to take him up on his offer.
