#27Pros can nick anything they really want - but they mostly nick to order, and prefer expensive, standard, anonymous Jap bikes.
Meanwhile, most thefts of Superdukes and big KTMs seem to be opportunists and rank amateurs, who should easily be put off by alarms and disclocks, even if they still fook your ignition.
A coupla bits of advice from first and second hand experience...
1. Make your security visible (bright disc locks, or a noisy disc alarm). That may put them off ruining your ignition barrel.
2. Don't bother with your steering lock. KTM steering locks are easily forced, and insurers may demand a whole new frame to "fix" the bike which will take time and cost a fortune, ruining your claim history.
i.e. Thieving scrotes may fook your steering lock before realising the disclock won't budge, so you can end up with expensive damage - even though you still have your bike, so that's why I say; don't bother.
3. Don't under-estimate the value of a cheap cover. Most tea-leaves are lazy fookers, and if they can't see what your bike is without crossing the street, they may just leave it well alone, as they head for the next bright thing in the carpark.
4. Don't put your chain thru your wheel. My mate returned to find his back wheel chained to a lamp-post. Solo. No prizes for working out what went wrong there. ...Even the giant-linked 16mm Almax will go through an SD frame on the LH side.
5. Chain to something solid, blah blah blah....
6. ...and finally - if your bike does get nicked. Don't give up. In the last 3 years on forums I've seen at least 4 or 5 bikes returned to thier owners within a week, including my own.
This is even more likely if your bike was stoeln without any security on it. There's a good chance it's parked in an alleyway in your local housing estate. (My old KTM 950 SM is often seen within a mile of my flat - no plate, no lights, 2-up... One day I may "bump" into them)
