Hey guys, what are the pro's and cons of each. I assume the Akra's are made better and are quieter. I do like the way the apex's look though. I have the opportunity to get either or for the same price.
Used Akra's or new FMF Apex's

#2FMFs, hands down. They are THE best looking pipes for the SD, period. The sound is feckin awesome. They are LOUD.
This is IMHO, by the way. Don't get all butthurt, Akra fans.
Are you looking at the carbon or Ti ones?

#4I was like you looking for a set of cans where someone gave good feed back with before & after dyno runs to see the exact gains of all the different makes & model pipes. I was wonder could a budget exhaust produce the goods.
I did search for a long time but did not find what I was looking for & the Akra's were to expensive in my eyes even though I have used them in the past on other bikes & could not justify double the price compared to these Leovice exhausts.
My intentions were to buy a set of Leovince, FMF & Wings cans to do a shoot out between them & sell the ones that I did not want, but after testing the Leos first I am happy with the results & am sticking with them, I do not think there is much more Hp & Torque gains to be had from any of the other cans so have not gone any further, the Akra's & some of the others have a 1 to 1.5kg weight advantage over the Leo's.
Before anyone trys to shoot me down, I am not here trying to promote the Leovince cans, I am just providing the facts on my finds with them.

#5I'm looking at the carbon cans b/c i've got a SDR but i like the TI can's too. The Akra's are Ti evo's. I dont mind a loud pipe and i am seriously leaning to The FMF's. I love the fact that they are american made and that shape can is freaking awesome.

#7I Have The carbon tip FMF apex cans on my duke. With the sound of the motobox and the the FMF's The sound in just like music. To me these are the best looking and best sounding set up you can get.I know akra makes quality stuff.I think there cans look dated.I have seen a lot of dukes with the akra's .Some of the cans look huge.
FMF has been in business for a long time they make a quality product too.I have there full ti system on my YZ 450f.They own that market
When I was a distb back in the day.I was lucky to have FMF as a product line.I used to go down to the shop and watch them make new pipes for the 2 strokes. They really do there home work.I think you will be happy with your FMF pipes.I have mine set up with out the smaller cones. The bike sounds like a full blown race bike now. It's only really loud when your on the gas.At idle I think it sounds normal.
Go for the FMF .I had to pull some favors to get mine they were on back order.
PM me if you have any trouble getting them.I might be able to get you a better price.Let me know and I will get you a quote.I can get them shipped to your door.

#8I had the FMF's on my SD and have the Akro's on my SDR. I like the FMF's better. the sound and look is better than the Akro's, although the akro's look beautiful on my SDR the carbon FMF would look better with the angles. I've even thought of getting the FMF's for the SDR but don't want to spend the money when I already have an expensive exhaust on there.

#9I have FMFs on my SDR, they're awesome cans. They sound great and they're very very well built- I wouldn't hesitate for a second to compare them to Akras.
With that being said, I think the shape of the Akras is really nice too. If I had to get a set of cans now I'd have a tough time deciding between the two. I think they're both awesome, you can't go wrong.

#10dude, get what you can afford. me? i could afford the Akras, they work with KTM and look great.

#11I like the shape of the FMF's and would probaly get them in full carbon cans. My SDR came with the oval carbon Yoshi's, but if I had the choice, I would get the FMF's.

#12I have round arkas and I love them. My buddy has the FMF apex and I love them too. If price is an issue, get the FMF. They look amazing and sound even better.

#13I'm biased. The build quality and fit alone justified the Akras for me.
The price and appearance of the FMFs are hard to beat. But they are insane loud, and fail in the fit, finish and durability categories. You really get what you pay for. To deal with the loud part, see thread(s) on how to ADD baffles - yes ADD - only site I've ever been on where people want more quiet for their cans - you all rock.
And should you have an issue, FMF's customer service is horrible.

#15i went completely different and got a pair of Carbon Termigoni's from a ducati 998 and had a 'Y' piece made up at a local motorcycle exhaust shop... and i love them, only downside of carbon pipes is that you need to re-pack them more often (otherwise you can yellow/damage even burn the carbon) once a year should be fine.
that being said, the carbon leos are great (cheap) and I also think the FMF's are great. If I was going to do it differently, it would be the carbon FMFs.
They are a nice piece of kit and not at a rip off price. You have to remember, full car exhaust systems (mandrel bent and SS) only cost 3 grand, thats how much it costs to get these over here (in Aus), we dont get much for our money on bikes
