#5I've fitted the KTM heated grips on my SD. They work pretty well and keep my mitts toasty. If it gets sub 35DegF, I throw on some winter riding gloves as well. Not sure how I feel about hand guards.

I also wear summer weight gloves year round (Held Steve). The 'Start' setting is what I find myself using all the time. Start is to heat them up quick then the 'On' is to keep them warm...but I find 'On' does nothing for me. So I put them on Start for a while then off...Start then off. Kind of a pain but warmth is very good. I can attest to warming from the inside out. Here in SoCal, couple mornings this winter were in the 40's-50's, and while not terribly cold, an hour commute at 80mph would turn my digits to ice.
Easy to install and use. Well worth it in my opinion.

#7I wear latex throw away medical gloves for riding off road in the winter keeps the cold off nicely, but if my hands get that cold it aint superduke weather for me

#14I have the Symtec grips fitted.
I like the fact that they come with a flush fitting rocker switch rather then the big knob dial... (i can post a pic if you like)
Also you get to keep the original rubber grips which are better then the hard plastic ones that come with some grips.
The Symtec grips do keep my hands warm(er) but my tumbs still gets cold.
The handguards would keep your hands warm but will keep the wind off so a combo might be a good idea?
