Wave/petal discs - cool or crap?

My opinion is that wavy doesn't suit the SD.

Here are my Braketeck rotors and carriers - they are understated but mean looking. Not cheap though.

Ronin has Galfer wavey disks on his and they look the bomb IMO. If I had the spare dosh I'd def get a set.

This was the only place i could think of finding a pic of his bike. Sorry Dan

I would 100% choose my brake rotors based on what they look like.

Is there any technical benefit of wave discs, or is purely a visual/aesthetic mod ?

I've ridden Ronin's SD and the braking felt better than mine. Not sure what pads he had in though. My fluids are changed very frequently so it wasn't that. You would obviously only upgrade something that expensive if they offered better braking. That fact they look great is a added bonus.

I can see where you're coming from, but WSBK teams could use them, but choose not to. If they were better than plain old round ones, don't you think they'd jump onboard?

Not if Brembo offered them a sweeter deal.

The OE kwack discs aren't even proper wave discs. The indents aren't deep enough to sweep the whole face of the pads - which was the reason they first became popular on supermotos.

It's purely a fashion thing with those.

Wavy disk is just fashion. Any benefit from profiled edge cleaning the disk is surely outweighed by the reduction in contact surface area of pad to rotor? I'm with Pete here, if they really offered any performance benefit you'd see them on race bikes. If you want bling, go for the carrier, not the rotor.

As a side note, the Braketechs are not totally brilliant. The cast iron rotors I have are really, really awesome in the dry but they are not good in the pouring rain, there is a distinct lag before they start to work and it can cause bum clenching, heart in the mouth moment at motorway speeds. I'm seriously thinking about getting a set of stainless rotors for the winter. Maybe it's the iron / pad combination I'm running but it was pout together on the recommendation of the Braketech UK importer.

Who cares about Ronin's rotors. The "I love the dribble" sticker is awesome.
