#11I've been using Total 95 RON for years until I got caught short recently miles (OK, yards) from home and had to fill up on Shell 95.
I dunno if it's my imagination but the bike seems to run a lot better on Shell than Total. Incidentally the local KTM dealer is attached to a Total forecourt. Hmmmmmm.
I did try Total 97 once and it seemed to make the hunting problem worse.

#12Regular unleaded for me tried the super made no difference, spend a lora time at petrol stations like most SD owners

#1595 Aussie RON or sometimes 98 RON if no 95.
Our 91 RON is absolute rubbish and it now comes with Ethanol (called E10) which is VERY BAD FOR YOUR ENGINE!!!
I only use 95+ because it (theoretically) burns better and thus doesn't hurt the engine as much as the cheaper (read - produces knocking) fuel.
I think it depends on how your local fuel is produced and then how they workout their RON ratings.

#17RON is a universal rating - but it can be artificially increased/modified using additives.
For example adding Ethanol increases the RON rating of std 91 RON fuel (to 93 I think), but in a wicked little twist actually decreases the fuels efficiency.
Now theoretically the higher the RON the more efficient the fuel is but with Ethanol you the worst of everything - decreased mileage, decreased efficiency and decrease in engine life.

#19wow... here in Italy we have Shell Vpower and Tamoil WR100, both they are 100 octane... The Shell is absurdely priced: 1,65 Euros per Litre, while the Tamoil is 1,6 against 1,58 for the 98 and 1,2 for the 95....
The Vpower works bad on the SD, since I feel clear that passing the 8000 rpm barrier the engine rushes less than with the 95 normal fuel... Instead the WR100 work fine at every rpm and the fuelling issues are less evident. The progression to the rev limiter is enhanced and the engine is more.... fluid...? is it a correct word?
