Am i right in thinking the rear sprocket is a 38T?

looking at changing. the fronts been changed from 17T to a 16T

would a 40T make much of a differance?

I'm running 16:40 (from 16:38) and the difference is noticeable, but not transformational. ...I couldn't go back though, as it's much better suited to town speeds, with better throttle control and smoother 90 degree cornering at low speed

I would also try 16:42 if I could be arsed, as it still goes plenty fast enough in top, but I'd be careful not to go any shorter and risk making first gear redundant.

Most people reckon that each tooth down on the front equals 2.5 up on the rear.

You may also need to reverse your spindle spacers to avoid needing a longer chain.

just had the major 9000 service so i went for the 16/40 tooth change and got a longer chain to fit instead of the reverse wheel adjuster scenario, orange chain of course ! and rear sprocket in gold by renthal, did this mod on a ktm 640 duke , (40 tooth ) really liked it so here we go again on the superduke

I've tried just about every combo. 16/40 is great in town. 16/42 is over the top IMO and takes too much off top end. 16/38 is what I'm on now as I wanted the extra top end for track. 17/38 is meant to be good and is also meant to be kinder to the chain at the front sprocket.
