I have not seen studies done on the percentages of bikes stolen from gun owners verses non gun owners. It may be that Motohooligan has a point. There is only one, one hundred percent chance of relieving the chance of getting a motorcycle stolen. Not owning one. If you do own one then the least you should do is get one of these,

It also keeps your gun from getting stolen.
For a change last Friday I rode to work in central London on my SD instead of my Yamaha 125 commuter hack. It was a nice morning and, like every day, I stood in front of the two vehicles in the car park and the SD seemed to be saying, "take me you bastard, that scooter gets all the fun!"

So I undid all the chains, (three) and the disc lock and packed my Kriega with the kit for going into London when I have to leave the bike unattended for any length of time.

Get to Oxford street and first I have to find a "special" bike parking bay. This is one with a lamp post of something set into the pavement where a chain can go through the back wheel and round something solid. Westminster council said they were going to provide these at every parking bay but of course they haven't. Then I have to get my Almax chain and get it into position, takes a bit of time to get the bike and the post aligned up so I can get it to fit. Then I get my other chain and thread it through the front wheel. Doesn't really add anything except another deterrent and pain in the arse to potential scum. Then I get my old trusty disc lock and wap that through the front disc. Then I get out an old cheap, silver bike cover and spend five minutes spreading it over the bike to hide any evidence that it's a Superduke. I have to get on my hands and knees and fiddle about with quite a few additional ties that I've added so that the wind won't expose any bit during the day. Then I realise that I've left my keys in the ignition so have to undo a few ties, make sure the steering lock is on and do it all up again. Last thing is to set the alarm. Beep, beep. She's done. But oh no!! I'm not done because Westminster's stupid payment system means that I have to ring a number and transfer the registration from the Yamaha to the SD. After about 5 minutes of punching in numbers and stars I finally get through to an operator who makes me go through the whole process again. Finally, I'm done, get to work 20 minutes slower than normal wondering it was worth the effort.

Then I still feel compelled to leave the office twice during the day to check that the bike is still there. Each time I have a sinking feeling as I turn the corner - and a feeling of relief to see the silver cover poking out from the mass of commuter scooters.

Then at the end of a hard week I have to undo all those locks and covers and alarms and pack them into my Kriega. In the pissing rain - because this is England and what was a nice morning has turned into a grey, wet, miserable evening.

London is a joke for owning a great motorcycle. Thieving scum, no good roads, speed cameras, pot holes, parking charges, no good bike shops, lots of dickhead posers with chicken strips.

I'm seriously thinking of moving out.

My condolences Gezza, hope you get a swift payout.
Wow. I think if I lived in London, I'd fit my bikes with one of those James Bond security devises. You know, like the one he had on the Lotus Esprit Turbo in the movie "For Your Eyes Only?" Move the bike and ka pow!! As a plus, you wouldn't have to wait to see if your bike was recovered to get your insurance payout because you'd still have the charred pieces.

Fargin' thieving bastages.

I was very upset when my first SD was stolen.

Worst still my 2 racebikes went and they were not insured.
