Why does the superduke cost more than the RC8?

Well that pretty much says it. I can buy a brand spankers RC8 here in the UK for £8000, a Superduke is gonna cost me at least an extra £750. WTF? Debate...
I actually like the SD more, but at that money I'm seriously considering the switch to an RC8...150bhp etc etc....
Last I heard, 4 weeks ago, Fowlers in Bristol were doing new SD's for £7500. Seems cheap if you want new. 
I can't remember, did you get rid of your other superduke then lobster?
No not yet. Got this massive "something new" itch. Ideally I'd buy a streetfighther, but spastically massive amounts of money are required to make the move, and frankly the argument that, "it's a Ducati" cuts about as much ice with me as, "It's a Hongdu". Basically they can take their premium band and shove it where the sun don't shine. So long as it works, I'm happy...
So, brand new RC8 for £8k is looking quite favourable...
I'd buy the RC8 and turn it into a Superduke (1200 that is). How hard could it be? Remove plastic, install headlight and bars and you're off!
If it's just a something new itch you have to scratch then IMO the RC8s are a steal at £8000, have one for a couple years and then trade it for the 1200 SD
Mmm it is hard when you get that something new itch. RC8 is a great bike, and a good buy too by the sounds of it.
No brainer if you have the need for a brand new bike. KTM made too many and sold too few of the first RC8's then brought others that were unsold in Europe to the UK just to add to the problem.

The dealer will probably try to rob you on the p/ex value of your SD as he is trying to offset some of the loss / zero profit on the RC8. So you may be better selling your SD privately. You will have trouble getting the RC8 through trackday noise tests unless you buy the latest Akra with twin cans for near on 3 grand!!!

There are a few well documented problems with 08 RC8's but nothing worse than has been written about the SD. Like the SD KTM seem to start off too racy and radical and them soften the geometry and power on later models. We have just fiddled with the forks and rear shock spring on Jamie's to make it less harsh and more like an 09/10 old womans shopping trolley RC8 We can do the same for yours for a small fee, Just call Two Monkeys Racing, suspension wrecking division on the usual number.

Finally, you will still have a depreciation hit with the RC8 even at 8 grand. Most used ones are advertised for a bit over 6k and I imagine most owners would take 5500 quid cash. That is equally true of any new bike though.
