No, I think it's because I started riding on Kawasaki triples in the late 70's so anything after that seems totally stable. The little twitches you get on a SD are, like, just a reminder that there's something going on down! Never had a tank splapper on a SD, has anyone?

'07 so it has the revised steering angle which reduced the tendency for head shaking a bit - I guess that's why they did it because all the early write ups of SD pre '07 talked about the sharp steering but slightly unstable habits.

But I have a race shock to try this year and I believe they are 10mm longer, raise the back end, so maybe I can expect to experience something similar to the pre '07 geometry when it's fitted.

That's why I'm starting to look at steering dampers.
That's maybe why you haven't had a problem, mines an 06 and it can get very twitchy Doin 90/100 mph on A roads then hitting some crap road aint funny It's done it to me a few times and forget tank slapping this is to the extreme where it feels it's goin to just spit me off I would like a steering damper but i think they are a lot of ££'s so will wait for a second hand one
She's a bitch Love her to bits though

That's interesting Freestyler!

Because I was really hooked on the SD concept in '06 but just couldn't come to terms with the front headlight cowl design thing. Just seemed to me to be an afterthought, like the designers had run out of ideas. I imagine that they were all sat round having lunch, a bit of Austrian beer, a few gurkin things, bit of sourkraut cabbage etc. and a nice wedge of germanic, orange cheese. Suddenly one of them holds up a nice hefty 30 degree slice of cheese and says, "This is it! A simple wedge of orange will suffice for that bit on the front we can't be arsed to design!".

And so the first generation of SD came to be.

But when the SD became a commercial success, (despite the ugly nose), those lazy fookers got fired and some better designers got draughted in to put on a bigger tank, get the steering geometry fixed, add the radial brakes, and finally sort out a design for the headlight that matched the awesome "edge/stealth/unique to KTM" styling of the overall bike.

Oh, how I will get attacked for this comment. But only by pre '07 owners who have inferiority complexes.

It's Saturday night, I'm drunk and I don't care!
