Why should I not buy a Triumph Speed Triple?

If you have to ask this the SD clearly isn't for you....

I ride a V-twin cause i'm in love with that configuration including cons and plusses, and i ride KTM cause it's a bike you don't see everyday.

Riding a motorbike is all about emotion for me...

But in the end it comes down to what ever makes you happy, ride the SD and ride ST and make up your mind, i would not base the purchase of a bike on the fact if the oil is easy changeable...

Just my 2 cents

Nothing wrong with a Speed Triple - very good bike and more user frendly than a SD.

That's why I have got one sat next to my SD in the garage - it is of course the Wife's

If you buy the Speed Tripple, people won't be able to say, 'that motorcycle looks like some kinda of Batman bike. Or my favorite, 'nice Ducati'.

Simple answer having recently ridden one is that they are very very dull. Fantastic machine for commuting or riding to shops though

I'd say if you're thinking about abandoning team orange for a brit, get the younger, trimmer one that's more exciting. I had a go on first a Speed Triple and then a Street Triple R and boy is the Street miles ahead when it comes to... Well everything really. There might be a few more ponies hiding in the Speed, but the way the 675 makes its power is just grin inducing and the riding position and nimbleness is amazing. I have to say Triumph did something amazing with the Street Triple R. The Speed actually didn't do it for me in terms of giving me what the Superduke always does. In fact, compared to the SD and the Street R, the Speed felt like a wet rag in my opinion.

I think it's there to keep the weight low for increased flickability.. S3's a good bike, but the SD's better. I guess it just boils down to whether you'd rather ride an Angelina Jolie or a Meg Ryan..?

Well i still got mine..its done 47000 miles never broke down....but its not a patch on SD as in heavy on steering , not razor sharp!....brakes are dreadfull but engine is stonking i reckon though...and its bloody comphy.....i have changed loads of bits on mine, looks coolio now, standard cans n bars are bloody shitty looking i got single low can on mine..all rizzoma bars n grips mirrors, tail tidy no massive duck bill hanging on the back either tell you what low millage ones are bloody holding there price too!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have always liked the ST. In fact, it could be argued that seeing a ST got me in the mood for that type of bike when the SD came along. Especially the 1050cc motor makes it nice. Don't know how adjustable the suspension is though?

Street triple R is not much.............if any slower than Superduke Standard, and miles better than a Speed Triple for handling.......if it was not for the fact my Superduke has some how bonded totally with me........... I would be very tempted....its a total blast to ride

When my first Superduke was stolen I couldn't face having another one straight away it was too painful and the insurance payout was shite.

So my 56 plate Superduke changed into a 55 plate Speed Triple, it was a great bike but just didn't have the "KTM Racing Spirit" Felt like something was missing somehow, just never had that emotional attachment? Also the build quality wasn't as good, it just didn't weather well.

Went through every naked bike going and last July finally came back to Superduke ownership and have been in love again ever since.

My advice spend the money making your Superduke better and get out and ride!

Ive owned a 2008 S3 and I got rid of it only after 3 months.
I had a lot of problems and I just couldn't get it to handle right.
I set the sag and stuffed around with the compression and rebound but I just didn't feel confident in the twisties.
Ive had a test ride on the street 3 and I think that its a better bike than the S3 as the S3 is to top heavy.
Im new to the Super Duke but Ive owned some top bikes and so far I think the SD is the best.

Bic....im affraid st really needs a bloody revamp!!! i like the look of old 05 ...thats better than 08 onwards one , better than that flamming new one mind........but if it handles sweeter...not a heavy old lump thats a good thing..i can ride mine pretty okish keep up with most...with in reason but it needs bit more riding at them speeds like real brutal on the bars to pick it up outta bends and put it in, its a slow tuner i reckon..planted i spose, now if they have done a good job on the frame...jesus its been same old heavy thing since 97 i think ffs lol im gunna ride one see what i reckon...i love SD loads...still cant part with my 1050 i like to give it an airing on the weekend
street trip r is a lovley bike....realy handles nice pretty tourquey too....i know few lads have opped for them over speed...mainley coz they live in twistey tastic places...they love them to bits..and they ride bloody fast hmmm i wouldnt own one mind....and im a girl lol right no more rambling

What I found also with the S3 is that the three cylinder engine seems really kool first off but after a while it starts to seem like your just riding a Jap 4 engine.
It has good low and mid range but top end is a bit weak and I had Miv pipe and arrow map on mine but Im not trying to talk you out of your desicion but I think you will be coming back to the SD.
The SD just has more caracter and handles like a dream. NOT WET! LOL

Talk you out of it? Hell, I'm gonna recommend you buy one. A Speed Triple is pretty much the same as an SD? Sure, pretty much the same a FireBlade is the same as an 1198R. The battery location is different, but not unusual by any stretch (try a Kawasaki C14), and seriously, how often do you have to get at a sealed AGM battery anyway? But, if that's the kind of 'reliability' you want, you may just as well get a Vespa and be really, really happy. Oh, and comparing a plastic gas tank to a plastic wine box has to be the the most idiocy laced comparison I've seen in print. You should consider a career in motojournalism.

Just be prepared for the parade of SDs eating your lunch in the twisties where it counts, not in the shop where the knobs hang out.

It has been said that the Hinkley Triumphs have Japanese and Italian influences. Sadly, it's Japanese character and Italian reliability. I've just sold a 1050 Tiger - you knew it was in the garage, waiting for you, but you just couldn't be bothered somehow. Triumph have done their level best to engineer the soul out of the three cylinder engine, and the gearbox is notchy and unpleasant as well.
I was waiting for a demo of the new one, but one ride on a Superduke has changed my mind.
