x or current 950 Supermoto owners I need answers

Ok its time to dump my Honda and I cant let the stable get smaller for fear my wife attempt to "downsize my toy box"

I have a buyer for the viffer so my plan to wait on a new Duke is not viable (have to figure that one out in the spring).

I am looking for a daily commuter, city riding, moderate traffic, back roads, many twistys (for texas)

I have found a 2007 Supermoto R very close to me that is calling to me, My questions are

1. Is the bike completly redundant to the Super Duke and therefore no good reason to have both (other than KTM love)

2. Besides the cool paint what makes the R different than the standard

3. What other bikes should I look at as a commuter (year round) that will not leave me day dreaming about my Super Duke while riding to work

3. Ducati Hypermotard - they're 2nd only to the SD in fun factor of all street bikes I've ridden. I haven't ridden a KTM SM, though.

Thought about it BUT I have a PB or Bike mag (cant remember) that has a comparison with the Duc-hyper, BMW-mega, and KTM supermoto

It was not even close all testers said that all 3 were nice bikes but the KTM was in a different class. I think the quote is that "the KTM was not a bit ahead of the other 2 it is a country mile" The write up is so one sided for the KTM it put me off the Duc.

That and a low mile 07 KTM can be had for less then 10k


The Duc does look sexy as hell, and tiny! I sat on one and could not believe how small it was. Nice bike for sure.

I saw that, but everyone has an opinion! My rationale w/ the Duc is that it will be more different than an SD + a SM, better looking, plus no spokes to keep tensioned....but then again, I like having two KTM dirtbikes b/c many parts are interchangeable.

Hard to compare against a bike I haven't ridden, but the HM is def. a hoot!

I've ridden both and the Hypermotard is a toy. It'll become massively frustrating as an every day bike. The KTM was class.

The only thing I'd say about that style of bike is that comfort can be an issue depending on your build and commute distance. I'm not sure if the SMR has a narrower, harder seat to the standard.

Most peeps recommend the KTM gel seat.

Get it rejetted, chuck on the Akky's and enjoy the finest over run explosions money can buy!!

DK, Please allow one joe to say.......I had a 06 SM prior to my 07 SD,

I had faster corner entrance speeds on the SM, the moto was THE MOST

PURE FUN ! I have ever had, Including the SD, The SM was what woke

me up to the fun factor of the KTM, I dunno if I would have bought the

SD If I had not had the SM first, not to sound confusing but,,,,,,If I had one

of my many bikes back, The SM would be the one hands down,

You will be amazed at the moto, it is alot like the SD naturally, but a HOOT

to ride, and the suspension is a delight with the additional 2 in. of travel

It is also a hooligan bike to me anyway, BUY ONE and I will be shocked

if you dont absolutely LOVE IT, Listen, I would have never sold it

if I could have lowered it a small amount, to me it was like the SD but tall. GOOD LUCK, My good man.

When my SD go's in for a sirvice I book the bosses SMR as my loan bike for the day , He hates me becose I take it back with atleast 150 more miles on it than when thay lent it too me , it is so easy and so much fun to ride , thay have got the smx'950 seat and tank on so slitley smaller tank to the standed SM , and the seat is a bit skinyer ,

Iff I was comuteing to werk this is what I wood have ,and just yous my SD for sundays

Check out the before you go Akra. Of course, I'm prolly biased since I have them, but to me they look and sound better than the Akras. I did a detailed evaluation if you have time to kill.

One more thing: don't get on the re-jet merry-go-round. Take off the cannister and SAS, raise the needles 1 notch, adjust the idle mixture screws 1-1/2 to 2 turns out, and call it good.
