Here's mine.

Deltek rockhopper circa 1974. My Brother and I got one each for Christmas. Possibly the best day of my life.

Image
1971 Suzuki 'T'ittie 'S'ucker 90, had 2 sets of gearing, one off road and one on. Loved the little banshee.

Image

had a mini bike like yers first but here was my love. Orange is kewl...
Honda TwinStar. Got it in '90. It was in my aunt's garage and had been there for a very long time. For a couple weeks I couldn't understand why I had to choke the hell out of it (manual choke!!!) every time I was at idle throttle...until I finally pulled the apple-sized carb out and had someone with a compressor blow the black gunk out!

I especially hated the ribbed bananna seat!

Image
Had me a little YSR 50. Put a YZ80 motor in it. The engine change got the bike from 50mph to around 85mph.

Image
1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special. That bike got me in a lot of trouble...and I loved every minute of it.

The H2 is a bit of history that I belive any true motorcycle enthusiest should have a chance to ride!!! Stock they made awsome HP... and with shaved heads and a good set of pipes are a real hand full
Till you feel a tripple 2-stroke come up on the pipes you havent lived. and the scary part is when you chop the throtle and it dosent slow down! and there is nothing but a single piston sinlge rotor front break They didnt call them "flexy fliers" for nothing

As for the 3-wheelers...death traps...no!! the fact of the matter is when they came out people where under the impression that if it didnt fall over when standing still it was safe. we all know better now, if it goes fast you stand a chance of getting hurt. Rider be ware
Thanks joe!
You brought back some wonderful memories.
You are welcome mate..No, No, Brad.... Thanks go out to you dudes...

the time we have to treasure most are these times and the good folks to spend it with...

the pleasure is all mine!

PS.. Moto did you get an email from me?..
I got my first bike when i was 18, it was a Suzuki GS650GX Katana

Image

Super cool at that time, but terrible slow and a very famous 'rocking horse' to ride.

I quickly shifted to the first model GSX-R 1100, even more Rocking Horse syndrome........

Then multiple ZX-10's (the old caravan model.... ), ZZR-1100, KTM Duke II, multiple R6's, and now the fantastic Superduke......
Gee, The old bikes bring back some fond memories.

I remember kids with bikes like these. Yamaha gt80's z50's and the like.
You could ride all day in the scrub and the police or cranky residents were far from yor mind.

This was my second bike. Honda mr50. It had 3 gears and a manual clutch.

My first:

...although it was a bit old and repainted, bought cheap. I couldn't change gears on the way home, I didn't know how to ride. I was 16. I wasn't allowed to get a bike, so I parked it in the parking of some flats up the road. Eventually I brought it home.

Next was a Yamaha 50 4-gear, 1968 model, I think. I bought it from my friend because it did about 70mph, it revved and howled. Skimmed head, ..probably lightened piston, cut piston skirts, polished ports with fingers and sandpaper.

Then one of these:

It was good. Strong, unbreakable. It served me well.

Then, an OSSA 250 SDR, bought new in 1973:

It had to be sold to buy a big road bike. One of these:

It didn't look like that for long, it got...modified, lightened.
[pic pending joe hosting]
It got wiped out, by hitting a car at about 120kmh, that's how I got the name cat, I landed on my feet, twisted my ankle, and blue balls from hitting the top of the car. Flat bars and I launched. The car was written off, collapsed left front suspension and tyre, door pushed in so it broke the woman's ribs..she went to hospital in an ambulance while I watched, drinking tea on my friend's porch. The cop was looking for me in the trees. I'd seen that I seemed to be quite close to the phone lines.

So, it had to be replaced with this :

Image

...which also hit a car, because I overtook it in an intersection because it was dithering around, and she turned into me. Concussion, rib, collar bone, mangled little finger, knees. So I got a car, the concussion had that effect.

I turned 17 in 1983. Most of my mates were a year or two older. They all had RD250's or Superdreams. We werent that fussy then and both bikes were equally cool. Every evening we would hang about outside the KFC and get into fights with the other bikers that hung out at Riverview Park.

I had spent the summer of 1982 digging ditches for a construction company and bailing hay for a local farmer (both cash in hand). After getting pissed every night (one pint of bitter ) I had 400 quid left for my dream machine.

Then some tw*t changed the law. I was restricted to a 125cc.

In 1983 there were no cool 125's. Even if there had been my mates would still have taken the p*ss. Moreover, there was a young lady in my sixth form I hoped to impress and a 125 just wasnt going to do it. Her name was Jane Hobbs and she had massive tits. Do you remember before boob jobs you almost never saw a girl with massive tits who didnt also have a massive arse to go with it? Well Jane Hobbs in 1983 was like one of those Greek girls before they inflate. I dont like to think what she looks like now, probably 30 stone. But in 1983 I was in lurve....

Of course, I had never spoken to her. Couldn't. If she ever spoke to me I couldn't even answer, just stammered and blushed and dribbled I used to talk to her ugly mate when she wasnt around. In the hope that ugly would put a word in for me. Never happened.

But I was convinced, 100% convinced, that if I turned up on a proper bike her knickers would just fall down.

Dont blame me for this, blame my parents, I had been at a single sex school (boys, Toby ) from the age of 11. I knew about Wanking and chinese burns and fighting but I knew nothing about girls.

Now my uncle had a 1977 Honda 400/4 in blue. Which to me, looked like a proper bike. My uncle knew I didnt have a licence so he wouldnt sell to me. Luckily I had a mate with a licence who was willing to pretend it was for him and hand over my 250 quid for it.

My mate, Mark, was even desperate enough to agree that I could ride it and pretend to be him if I got stopped as long as he could use it also.

It got me nowhere with Jane Hobbs. It did get me suspended for riding an unlicenced, untaxed motorcycle across the playground. And after the second time my mate Mark had to produce his documents and get a b*ll*cking for my traffic offences he decided enough was enough. He gave me 250 quid and kept the bike.

I thought a car would enhance my sex appeal and bought a 1976 Vauhall Viva. Which, I also drove around without a licence. Also without much sex.

That would have been the end of me and bikes except for the film Top Gun. A mate turned up at my house on his new, financed, GPZ900 and I was smitten and terrified in equal measure. Those too young to remember the impact the GPZ900 made when it was launched think of the Fireblade launch in 1992 and double it.

This time I would do it right. Hired a CG125 from a training company in Lydd did the part 1 test riding around cones on a playground. Then off to Crawley, In January, for the road bit. At that time the M20 ended at Ashford and the rest was A roads. Once I got there I couldnt use motorways on a learner bike and had to go around to coast road then up the A23. The day started with heavy rain which turned to sleet then snow.

When I finally got to the test centre the examiner asked me to start the bike and the kick start broke off. Those Brazilian made CG125's had crap castings. Test cancelled. Back through all kinds of weather in my borrowed wax cotton Belstaffs. Next test was February in Folkestone. A nicer day so I turned up in borrowed full leathers. I looked a right plumb but was too young to know.

Anyway I passed. So same day I went to EC Bates and signed on the line 2500 quid for a used GPZ900A1 in red and charcoal grey. So at home I start phoning around for insurance.......

Them: What bike?
Me:........... GPZ900
Them:How old?
Me:........... Eighteen
Them: How long have you had a licence?
Me: Er............. About 4 hours.
Them: BRRRRRRRR
Me:............Hello? Hello?, The f*cker has hung up!

Finally I found someone silly enough to insure me and I was away. Gravesend's answer to Tom Cruise in a Randy Mamola Arai Giga. Had bikes on and off ever since and still dont get any sex
2 hp briggs and stratton mini bike
