Keep in mind that any axial load (banging with a slide hammer etc.) on a radial ball bearing assembly during removal will damage the balls and races (even with the proper sized collet being used). Little dents in the balls and races are the result.
Rule of thumb, if you remove a blind bearing by applying force to the opposite race, replace the bearing.
The nice bearing removal tools available are there simply to ease removal...not prevent the aformentioned damage. Bearings are cheap if bought from a bearing supply shop. Pop your old bearings out and take them with you to supply house. They can match them up at fraction of the cost from dealer.
Example: $21 USD for 1ea front wheel bearing for a YZ450F from Stealer. They take 2 = $42. Bearing supplier charged $2.35 ea for the exact same bearing (same manufacturer, same P/N, same everything). 2 = $4.70. 10% of the cost.
