Yeah, I broke out the spray paint again. I removed and cleaned the gas cap and mounting ring. Then painted the cap, ring, & allen head screws flat black. I added photos to the gallery with my handlebar photos, along with a tip on painting the screws.
It was pretty straight forward to take the cap off. Six allen head bolts on the ring -- but look for one more under the gas cap when you unlock and open the cap. Used a card board box as a holder for the screws. Details on that are in photo captions.
I'll have to report back on how well this paint job holds up, as this area is prone to more abuse than the handlebars (from fuel dripping, fumes, fuel nozzle or key scratches, tank bag abrasion, etc.)
I like the final look, but in retrospect, I might have masked off the mounting ring and left that silver. Black cap and screws against the silver ring might have been interesting
