Painted the gas cap flat black

Yeah, I broke out the spray paint again. I removed and cleaned the gas cap and mounting ring. Then painted the cap, ring, & allen head screws flat black. I added photos to the gallery with my handlebar photos, along with a tip on painting the screws.

It was pretty straight forward to take the cap off. Six allen head bolts on the ring -- but look for one more under the gas cap when you unlock and open the cap. Used a card board box as a holder for the screws. Details on that are in photo captions.

I'll have to report back on how well this paint job holds up, as this area is prone to more abuse than the handlebars (from fuel dripping, fumes, fuel nozzle or key scratches, tank bag abrasion, etc.)

I like the final look, but in retrospect, I might have masked off the mounting ring and left that silver. Black cap and screws against the silver ring might have been interesting

I think it looks great.

You could even go 'natural' with the bolts or buy colored ones to match other bits.

Hi,
Any experience of how good the paint stands when used.
Doesn't it come off ?

Hope you don't mind dude but i really like the look of your mod so i did it myself. Decided to leave the key flap and allen screws silver but might change my mind on the key flap, will give it a few days and then maybe spray that as well. I do think they look much nicer with more lovely black faster too i'm sure

Don't mind at all, Colonel. It looks good. I like the unpainted mounting screws. I might even pull mine up and remove the paint on them some day.
Other members have been curious about the durability of the paint on this component, so once you have a report on that, please share it here (I'll do the same).
Thanks & cheers.

Gave the black paint job a go! Actually quite easy!

Just the tank on it's own!

View of the tank and 'new' bars. Tried to mask the KTM on the bars, not too bad for a first effort and will try to sharpen it up next time I have a few hours spare!

Cheers Ben
