Saddlebag rack mock up

Found some old copper piping up in the attic, so I decided to get creative. I'm not a plumber by any means, but this may lead to something more profesionally done down the road. The project is not complete yet, but I thought I would share just for the halibut.

Nice work but I think copper might be a bit on the fragile side.

Here's mine made out of steel and powder coated, removes in about 2 minutes.
Works with my dual seat also.

Nice rack!

I agree copper will be to weak, but it was free. I plan on doing something like what you have soon. Do you have any more photos of your rack showing how it connects and with the dual seat? Nicely done.

Just finished accupuncture as well
Here are a few pics without removing the seat and side panels, if you want more let me know.
It bolts to where the pillon pegs go and also bolts into the cans with nut inserts front and rear of the cans.

I was thinking of using the passenger peg mounts on the frame, the very end of the sub fame were the tail light is (just pull the plugs out) and underneath the tail section were the screws mount into the subframe through the tool kit / ecu plug area. With some kind of quick release mechanism. Thoughts..?

Alright, stupid question time!

If I wrapped 1'' hose (high heat radiator type hosing) around my exhaust to keep saddle bags from directly liying ontop of the exhaust, would that that keep the bags from burning? Just thinking outside the box... way out side! I have titanium Remus exhaust.

Scratch this idea!

I liked your original approach. The insulation they put on saddlebags these days is very effective.
I think your bags a too big. They look like they will crush inward the exhaust.
If you could find a tail bag and tankbag solution you may be better off.
Soarsore needs to chime in. He may have what your looking for for sale or lend. Find his threads and PM him. He will get you going straight.
Still I saw great potential in your copper canyon carvers.

For inquiring minds...

Here's a link to the saddlebag system. http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/product ... 309&cat=64 I'm impressed with quality and ease of use. I like the zipper connect and simplicity of the bag as a whole. I opted for the extra medium bags as I will be using them mainly for commuting. One bag for my lunch and the other bag for gloves, gear and doodads!

I have been out in the man cave playing legos with copper piping and this is pretty much the end mock up of what I plan on having profesionaly welded. I may use steel or aluminium. The copper is very light and surprisingly strong, but not the right material for the job. The rack seems a universal fit to the Superduke. Theres plenty of room between the bags and the exhaust. The top rack is moved slightly reward of the tail.

Just out of curiosity, if I could get a few racks done up for a good price would there be any interest among fellow Superdukers?

I'd be interested as long as it's not a huge ordeal to put on / take off (an hour or something would be fine but I don't want a half-dayer).

Got a few free comments on the pipe dream rack. Ditch the rear seat cover and use the rear seat to support some of your load. That will help get your CG (center of gravity) closer to the heart of the bike. I use a dry bag with Rockstraps, sp? to hold mine in place ...on my KTM Adventure and Tiumph Tiger. I camp out so I stuff my tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and a chair in the dry bag and sinch it down to the seat. Your diving board will want to shake, rattle and roll your bike, before it breaks off.
Don't take this as a slam on your design..it's just what I see...
p.s. I make a living as a mechanical designer.
