To goop or not to goop

Hello everybody, I am finishing up water pump R&R following instructions from the adventure (?) forum (linked from this site) and have one question, should I use sealant on the inner cover gasket? No mention of it in the article but I don't want to miss anything. I have removed the stator cover on my RFS many times when checking valves and still have the original gasket and no leaks, but still...
