Have to pop off the upper tree,,,,,,loosen pinch bolts ,remove stem bolt,,,tap it off with a rubber malet,,,then slide the ring down and bolt it up

In lieu of popping off the top triple clamp, next time you are getting a new front tyre mounted, lossen the fork tube pinch bolts and slide the fork down to allow you to place the clamp on the fork tube.....no messing around with the steering head bearings using this method. JUst make sure you get the pinch bolts torqued to spec when done...do not over tighten them!

Got one mounted on my bike. From memory there is an up direction to the tube clamp and a notch that will align with a feature on the bottom triple tree. Look at the second photo in this post and you can just barely see the notch cut out on the inter surface of the tube clamp. Let me know if you need me to get off my duff and post a photo for ya.
