2012 SD.net Crashfest 16 & 17th July!

I noticed that i stated last years crashfest thread in February so i thought id stick up a poll which 1 of our gorgeous mods can sticky and it can sit here till March when the TDOs will have released all thier dates.

As we all no 2 dayers are few and far between and normally consist of the following places -

Cadwell Park
Mallory Park
Oulton Park
Rockingham Raceway

So let the voting begin then we can all meet at Cadwell in July/August as usual

Oulton for me, but seeing you have to camp on the road outside the gate i'll go Cadwell. Never been there before on a bike so that might change once i go and find i'm utterly shit.

Anymore further south than midlands and i get a nose bleed.

For me it has to be cadwell. Cadwell park is the Crashfest, it's the track the mountain and the camping in the pit lane.

What's wrong with Donington?
Its got camping and a good pub in walking distance that will let us BBQ in their garden.
It may not have the mountain but it does have Craner and the armco is further back (which is important to me!).

That's odd: I thought there were a few double headers last year.
Hottrax are already doing a double header at Donington on 22/23 March.

Having said that can I also suggest we consider Anglesey?
Camping is free and there's loads of space.
Circuit is great and the surface is super-grippy and there's the Corkscrew which is fantastic.
Got a club house with a bar that stays open late.
I understand the local curry house delivers to the circuit!

i love cadwell . . . .but a track that you can get curry delivered too.

Prob wont have another road bike till late 2012. Fingers crossed.

May head down anyway to offer crashing advice naturally.

As we can vote for 2, I have voted Cadwell and Oulton. I'm easy really, Donington is a great track too.

Not so keen on Rockingham and Anglesey might as well be on the other side of the planet! Weather a worry there too...

Either way I'll be there, hopefully not crashing this year

All too far away for me. Ferry costs are too high from here. Not jealous much of the ease of doing a trackday when you live on the mainland.

Wierdly enough Anglesey is one of the driest places in the UK.
Its why the RAF build their jet training school there. I don't understand the technicalities but it has its own micro climate because Anglesey is in the 'shadow' of two mountain ranges and Ireland.
Now I've said that, if we go it will chuck it down and we'll be canoeing instead!

I think Donington is more expensive than Cadwell but its cheaper than Oulton by and large.

Cadwell's drawback for me is there are some places where its really important not to fook up as the consequences can be severe.

Theres no noise limits at Anglesey either

Any of my mates who raced at Anglesey have come back raving about the place. Say the surface is super grippy and layout is great. Sounds like its a nice friendly accomodating circuit too.

Had a scan through TDR and it seems just ike anywhere. Some guys did days there from april to october in the last 2 years and never had a drop of rain.

I'm not too fussed either way. I'm kinda in the same boat as Jody in the other thread. Got so many days prepaid with easytrack would rather it was with them, but will see how it pans out.

If I'm going to go to Anglesey then it would make sense for it to be a 2 dayer. Bloody long drive for just a day.

Anglesey would be good with the added bonus that the 2 dayers are generally over the weekend so i could defo do both days

Looking at easytracks website there is an option of doing tues 26th at Snetterton followed by wed 27th at Cadwell ???

TBH I don't fancy moving tracks. Eats into drinking/chuffing BBQ time which is a big part of it for me. I don't mind driving to Anglesey, want to do it at some point and the Crashfest is as good a time as any. Weekend is a massive bonus as well.

Oh bugger it, lets go to Anglesey. Its basically the same distance from my gaff anyway.

Also we won't need to listen to some scottish security guard trying to fleece us out of a fortune to keep the toilets open either. Never been to Anglesey so I've changed my mind completely.

Cadders or Anglesey for me then please.

Cadwell Park on the 11th & 12th (wed/thur) July 2012 with easy track

£200 for 2 days with the 1st day being 9am - 8pm (Inters groups all sold out already)

Hmm I'm tempted to come up and just do the 11th. 9 till 8 sounds great.

You can't use Easytrack credit for the TDR doo either. Put me off spending 200 with a tdo that's already sitting with over 600 of my cash.

Do Easytrack do Anglsey at all? Their callander is still pretty bare for this year.

Anyone fancy No Limits 8th and 9th of April as warm up. Will be 1st time out on he bike for me since the crash in October and it'd be handy having 2 days in a row to build up slowly, learn which way the track goes and see what breaks/snaps/falls off the bike.

Inters both days. Never been there before and not sat my ass on the bike since i threw it in the air at Knockhill in october. It's gonna be like a different bike with all the work i've done so want to spend a bit of time gettin used to it Be gutted if i binned it on the 1st day after a whole winters worth of work.

Just checked with ET, they def will not allow people attending the TDR 2 dayer to use part of their pre paid allocation, so I won't be going !!

have asked if they have any 2 dayers at Cadwell planned, nothing on website atm

best lap I've ever managed was a 1.45 but that was in 2010, I did 20 trackdays that summer and got quite quick.
IIRC the fastest I did last year was about 1.48 (only did 8 trackdays)

Anglessey is a fantastic circuit only done it once in a canoe Never seen rain like it, I actually turned into the pit on first flying lap TDO thought it hilarious!!

I don't really care, but agree with Clinck I don't really want to change circuit won't be the same socially! Weekend bash Saturday and Sunday would suit better, some people work Jody...

Yes it is worth having time of work Jody, but spending a weekend at the crash fest just ticks every box and leaves me holiday for my favourite road through the Pyrennes.

Thought I'd give this a bump. I need something to look forward to in this shite weather.

Same here. I've just sat for the past hour and organised my leave days to fit in trackdays untill september. Up to 9 so far.
Desperatley need to get out on it and get back up to speed.

Your lucky your still working on the bike. I finished mine too early so now i'm faffing about with it for the sake of it. Buying spares n crap from ebay i dont really need.

On the plus side i've ordered a new 6ft x13ft shed/workshop. 8ft high dropping to 7ft. Plenty room for tyres on shelving above and space to walk round the bike. Just means theres no excuse to drop the motor out it for next season.

The alarms are very basic. Just two of those personal attack type ones where you pull a pin out and they go nuts. I've modified them so they sit at two opposite sides at the back of the shed with fishing line attached to hooks at the door. As soon as the door opens it pulls the pins and with there being two of them and they'd be going for ages before the scum could find the pins and get them shut off.

The bike is chained to my tool chest too and i've deliberatley left it as gravel out side the door so the dog will hear anyone going near it. When i go on holiday i move the bike up to a mates garage just incase.

Insurance is a problem with the spec. It's got a big on/off switch instead of a key is fully comp is no chance. I've got it on basic 3rd party as a std bike, just for the off chance i pass a cop car when out on the local back road running it up and down making sure it's ok after any work. If i read the spec to any insurance co they'd just laugh.

It's a good area here though. Kinda place you can leave your door open all day and nobody bothers you.

Anymore word on this guy's? My rosta is out now and had to fire in leave days so might miss this depending on when/where it is. Everything's pretty much locked up as there's 48 other guys all trying to claim the same dates.

I'm in the same boat as Jody and would prefer it to be with Easytrack. But they're calendar is crap so far. Not keen on pumping out much more cash on trackdays with so much credit with ET, but it'd be good to meet you guys so I'd go for it if that's the way to lands.

If it's a go'er for Anglesey, No Limits have Sat 26th and Sun 27th May.

Or if your up for moving about I'll prob be doing Donnington with No Limits on the 29th, then Oulton with Easytrack on the 30th May.

Really can't see it being one day in one place and the next in another. That defeats part of the joy of the Crashfest which is the crack in the evening.

Hope you don't mind Stew but I edited your poll. Angelesey and Cadwell were a dead heat on 35% and everything else was no where near so I deleted the others. Down to these 2 now guys.

I think I'll just go ahead and book Anglesey for the 26/27 May anyway.

I've got quite a bit on in May. Hope this works out but if not its cool. I've penciled in Donnington on the 15th, then again on the 29th and nip up for Oulton on 30th.

Had a bit of a go at Easytrack regarding their limited track choice and dates so far. They assured me more dates will be added. Their head honcho has been ill. I asked about adding Donnington and Anglesey and she said they're in talks with other tracks but can't disclose anything yet.

Personally I think May is a bit early in the year for the Crashfest. Its nice to build up to it. Mid to late July into August is a nice time. But like I say that's just for me personally.

So does anybody known what camping at Anglesey is like? Cadwell is ok except it pisses down sometimes

I think the 5 of use who spent the Easter weekend at Anglesey would quite happily give the Welsh circuit our vote. Good paddock,garages not finished but look almost there. Access to power in paddock. Good club house. We all watched last nights mega MotoGP race. Great atmosphere.
Camping would be as good as Cadwell but they didn't charge this weekend.

Not sure any dates have been decided on but there must be a suitable slot some time this summer.

Gonna have to have a think about this. I'll wait untill i've been to Cadwell at the end of the month.

As it stands just now for me personally i'm not keen on going anywhere without facilities, (ie cover, tarmac to pit on and power, not fussed about how spotless the showers etc are). Power is a must for warmers, but even req'd overnight to recharge GPS sensor and phone.

Yesterday at Anglesey with no garages and pissing rain was hopeless. If i was doing that with no power and pitting on wet grass it'd be well grim.

I'll see how it goes at the end of the month

The August or July dates should be the best chance of dry conditions.

My vote goes to Anglesey, because of the great facilities that will be together by Summer. When those garages are finished it will be a great place to go. Its worth it just for the clubhouse bar and restaurant. Free camping too. Great track, room for error but still technical, really grippy and fast. Somewhere between Cadwell and Donington would be the best way to describe it for me. Still makes a great SD track.

However I can see that as no doubles are up for the Summer there yet, its almost inevitable we'll end up at Cadwell which I also love. Quite fancy the early July dates.

1st two options are out for me. 16th 17th July def ok. 6th 7th August might be ok, would need to get 7th off. 20th 21st August are out as i'm at Oulton on the 21st

MSV cant afford to build garages now. They've gave Haga £200,000 to mince around mid pack in BSB

We have at least 4 gazebos which we joined together for cover. Last time I don't think anyone who wanted power for warmers went without and I have also got a 2.7kv Gen that I didn't have last year so there are 2-3 more plug spaces. Phones and GPS get charged in cars I quite fancied Angelesey but if they don't have back to back dates its a no no. Cadders is fooking awesome though, there is no getting away from that.

What about Crashfest East, followed by Crashfest West a month or 2 later?! I just wish no limits had some dates published so we could make a decision.

It would be nice to have a Pig but maybe just a piglet would be enough judging by TDR's wastage Another vote for Daves cooking too!

Best way to do it is who ever organises it picks the date and everyone else has to work around it, there are always going to be people who cant make one date for one thing or enough, decisive desion making

I'm in for the open pitlane day tuesday,which was a credit from last year after the day i missed due to crashing on Charlie's 1. May book Monday in fast group if funds allow but first need to get some new rubber (not scrubs) for the event. Failing not being out on track i'll be sitting trackside with my camera on the monday after a skin full sunday night
I'll be bringing another large bag of spare ribbs,sausage's and burgers from my local butcher,so i hope the Colonel will bring his BBQ ? I had no trouble last year with open akras and a MH box on my old SDR. Take baffles just in case though

I had a bit of a prob with static but that's those carbon cans. Seem to cool down on idle. Have to hold the revs high for ages to get them hot enough to scrape through.

All day on 17th plus evening sessions, then open pit on 18th.

I'm there anyway and for the sake of another £40 for the evening it's worth it.

Got my house sorted for this one.

If i can strap it to the side of the jeep and tie the other side to the genny it should be proper secure. Might even be able to bring a camp bed and get a decent night sleep in there instead of kipping in the back of the car

that should be about 5 of us with those then lol. Lots of wights required to keep them on the ground.

Decided to race the sd. Money's tight and time off is hard so will only be doing a few rounds but looks like 1st one will be at Cadwell in Sept so even though I'm not keen on the place gotta get stuck in and find a happy place round there.

Got the folks coming round tomorrow so I can't get out anyway. Fancy an evening ride next week if I get it sorted?

I';m going to be swapping my clutch back first thing in the morn now Its slipping on the power like Bic's Need the heavier main spring it seems.

I'm working both days, but could possibly make the evening of 16th... What time is the "evening" session held generally??

I think its 6pm on track, 3 or 4 half hour sessions. Great value for that track time.

I think bring your own booze for sure, I can see the thinking behind food but last year people turned up with some really nice gourmet burgers, sausages and ribs. Ginge came with a 90% sawdust burgers that I thought they'd stopped selling in 1989. I suspect they'd actually been in his freezer since then

Alot going on in the background just now and cash is now very tight with trying to do Thundersport. Dont think i can afford to do in a set of tyres plus all the traveling cost. Plus I need time at places like Rockingham etc to get up to speed before putting my entries in so it makes sense to divert the cash to that.

Thing is last time a rode a sports bike (rsvr)it felt really weird going round corners with drop bars on would take a while to get used to it I think.

Got my KTM up for sale and think im dropping it off in Manchester next few days, use the cash to finish my house, which does not need much then closer to getting another SD

My shoulder is mullered from the race I did and my wrist too so need a month or so off it anyway

Dirt bikes are a fooking killer injury wise. MX is about as bad as it gets.

Be good to see you out there dude, even if it is on a R6. Just push those clip-ons out as far as they will go and rev the nuts of it

Id keep doing motocross to be fair but dont really know anyone else that does it so bit boring on your own, an enduro for me is only fun when its technical/challenging and not much of that round here.

I've cancelled the 16th.

It's going to cost too much fapping round there for two days. Not got the money for tyres. I'll prob be able to eek the open pit day out these tyres then that'll time up well with a new set for the races two weeks after.


I'm off on the monday so gives me plenty time to saunter down in fuel saving mode and get there for tea time.

Ive still got OPL on Tuesday but monday is now a problem for me as i have a father in law now going into hospital for his hip operation (he covers my work when im out of the office) and it aint a good time anyway with shit loads to do and the 2 week family holiday only 4 days after the Crashfest anyway.

Well after the 3 wettest months on record in the UK, July looks no better Just had a look at the long range for the next 3 weeks and it has it down to rain almost everyday including the Crashfest WTF is going on with this insane weather??? Can we please go back to getting the majority of the rain in winter please and not summer. I'm really starting to get the hump with it all.

The only positive note is that Almeria long range has cloudless skies and 30+c everyday for the next 25 days. Has to be looking positive for Español Accidente de Fiesta.

Yep the weather does look totally crap, I had a look this morning too. I haven't even got Spanish crash to look forward to I know things change rapidly with the weather but its not funny anymore.

I'm seriously thinking about sacking it off and banking the money for another sunnier day. If the forecast is no better this time next week then I will be thinking more seriously..

Well my rental comes wets.....but id rather use their dunlop D208's. We have not had a fully wet two days yet so fingers crossed plus weather men neve get it right, they cant get next weeks right let alone two.

Just paid for the rest of the t shirt/hoody order, total of £445 worth, this Crashfest is good for the economy

imo it's not worth thinking about weather until 3 days before....anything else is 50/50 at best

Obviously this is getting closer now, we all know where we want to be on Sunday night and will grab as much tarmac as possible. So what about Gazebos and stuff, who is bringing theirs, how many will we have? Weather still looking iffy so shelter will be important!

With regard to the bbq, who is bringing them along? I guess we are all bringing our own food and chipping in to the supplies. As already mentioned somebody needs to bring a dustbin to keep the beers in too.

As I have a list fetish according to Cerec1, should we make up some sort of wishlist that people can volunteer to bring along. Food, drink, kettle, tables, chairs etc?

I volunteer to bring Breakfast cereal, milk and coffee as I can't stomach bbq for breakfast again!

I'll be sleeping in the van, after last year in the marquee.. being blown all over the shop, airbed going down and sleeping in a pool of water I can't wait.

I think Klinck and Gin Reaper are both bringing Barbies... so someone better bring a Barbecue, fook I'm funny. Everyone kinda brings their own, I've asked my Nigerian hairdresser, that is, if a grade 2 is considered 'hairdressing' to get me some West African Star lager and some Zairean beers, I'll be bringing lethal ciders, Gentleman Jack, Piri Piri chicken, marinaded ribs and of course, Dave's Insanity sauce avec des accoutrements superior...
Sabre will undoubtably be bringing slaughterhouse floor sweepings, kindly dressed as burgers, which makes Shade's veggie shite look positively palatable, a measly pack of rich tea biscuits for everyone and and van filled emporium of Maltesers, chokky Hobnobs and other secret goodies to munch on while we're all snoozing and as for Klincky, I'd put a year's salary on Jaffa cakes, which he will sneak off to munch and feign surprise when caught...sooooo looking forward to this.

Hottrax racing are there on the Sunday at the time of the motogp races so its highly unlikely we can get in and use the bar area without paying the £10 entry just to get in before 5pm.

Probably chasing a lost cause unfortunately, also Mike If we watch the race at home we won't get to Cadders til very late. Or we have to leave mega early.... then hope they are screening it.

Update. They are really keen for us to watch the races. It will have to be via iplayer but the catering guy reckons the Wifi won't work in the clubhouse. Seems a bit odd. No satellite dish at the circuit. We somehow need to get their Wifi to work, take a laptop and VGA ling into their TV. Any ideas if we can do this with some clever tech? Don't really want to try and avoid the result right through til late on Tuesday.

Well the WiFi signal works in the bar as I can see it on my phone. I will bring my laptop, I have a HDMI cable to fit into the tele (must have HDMI in this day and age) and we can either watch it on iplayer or I can get Eurosport on my laptop.

Anybody live close enough to record all the races on a PVR. Burn onto a DVD and then we watch the whole lot, or whatever interests in the clubhouse. We can play off a laptop and link to a TV.

Quick Question about whats allowed on trackdays because ive only been to a couple..

I swapped my exc200 for a Yam R6. Its fully road legal. Im not keen on faired bikes so am going to use it on the track but am thinking of removing farings etc. I have a "race front fairing" that im thinking of chopping down to a sort of nose cone to hide the instruments and tidy the front end until I find something more suitable.

What sort of scrutiny is on these track days for such contraptions, Im bringing it to Cadwell with the superduke. I cant see it being dangerous, mechanically its in great condition and it will have no sharp edges or mascots likely to cause injury...

Do they get funny with stuff like that?

As long as its roadworthy I dont think it matters too much.

As long as everything is well fixed and not flapping around you shouldn't have any problems. You do see proper stripped down race reps in street fighter dress at trackdays. Obviously she will be quicker top end with all the plastics on though.

Update on watching MotoGP in the clubhouse. Just got off the phone to Jon the circuit manager. He is sure the WiFi signal will be too weak to watch anything so unless we can record onto a laptop or DVD we are looking like missing out. He also is worried that if too few of us show up it is not finacially viable to stay open after the official closing time of 6.30 on sunday night. It seems they need to take about £300 to break even.
He did seem sympthetic and will try to sort an extended opening. I suggested about 20 of the SD guys would be sitting in the bar to tempt him. I've been asked to email him and he will get back to me today.
Apparently they tried extended opening a month ago and no one showed up. We need to prove its worth opening.
Or we have a whip round

Three sleeps till I bin it... I'm really struggling with this race gearing, I'm fine if I'm thinking about it but the moment I need to act instinctively I'm fooked. I can just see me changing up two gears going in to Mansfield and doing a 'Millar'..

I have not even ridden a road bike for almost a year.....

Slowly getting the bike ready now, racetecs are on. Mirrors off, suspension set to Sport. Just got to fill her up with Super, get the plate off and drop the pressures.

My racetecs are in, unless its absolutely peeing down I'm not changing. Got 2 days there so there will be plenty of dry track. Haven't got spare wheels and it will cost £50 to put the wets in and out.

I haven't got a lot of spare cash and I would rather spend it getting the bike setup by 100% suspension...

Well BLB and myself are heading home. Knackered but intact. No fallers when we left with 10 mins track time left. Motoronin was one form and blacked flagged once for a minor misdemeanor, Sabre pulled some class wheelies and Klinck and Stalker did their best to bait an instructor.
Viking lost his gazebo to a gust of wind. Talking of which we were all traumatised by the site of Sabre's arse on the mountain last night. Hopefully Shade missed that shot on his Canon.

Up n down day from my seat. Destroyed a front wheel.
Lost my gazeebo down the paddock to a gust of wind.
Had some major traction issues with those CompK's and bike was spinning up all over the bloody place!

Got a 1min 43 and a load of 1min 44's.

Just got home, too fooked to write much but was epic guys, truly epic! The crown has been passed to the fooking lunatic that is Staker. Put in some fast fast laps, big jumps, hunted any bike that came into his vision and took no prisoners. Dragged me round for a fair few laps and gave me my best laptimes ever at Cadwell. He is however as others have eluded to a bit of a ****

Great to see everyone and even on day one where it pissed down all day everyone was out every session and having a proper good laugh. Today the weather was perfect and so was the day. Brilliant laugh with a brilliant bunch of lads and lasses. Good to see you all.

edit: oh forgot I managed to blow a massive whole in my titanium headers chasing down Ronin There is a 40mm wide hole with the section of metal blown out still attached by a small bit. She now sounds fooking amazing Was a bit down on power though and I'd get be failing db test as it must have been 130+db Section off to the welders

I concur... Mustard cupla days with some great laughs and monumental piss-taking. Reaper took one for the team by crashing at the hairpin so we could retain the 'Crashfest' title, it was great to see all the usual suspects and meet a few new ones. Proper job!!

Bit too tired to write up my report at the moment, its a long way back to Somerset! I'll try to scribble something together later.

Just to reinterate what everyone else has said...what a brilliant couple of days, even the wet weather didn't dampen our spirits too much and we just got on with the job of ragging the bikes on wets. How we all stayed up right is beyond me!
Yesterday was just awesome with the weather finally playing nice, and we all had a blast on the nice grippy dry track.

Once again, mucho thanks to Lydia for the loan of her shock after mine shat it's guts at the end of the first day.

Yeah Lydia was an amazingly good sport in letting people scavenge parts off her bike to keep going on day 2.

I think everyone did a fab job of lending bits to each, Lydia lending Millar the shock and Colenel Klinck pulled a blinder pulling out and lending out a pair of throttle cables, I even brought my spare clutch pedal but thankfully no one needed it.....

Just reviewin some of the footage, however need a bit more if anyone fancies sending me some SD card with a few track "moments" on, I think Motoronin might have that guy binning it in last session on the sportsbike out the chicane.

Crikey what an amazing couple of days! Nice leisurely journey up from Somerset with Cerec, with a van loaded to the roof with so much gear it felt ridiculous. Needed pretty much everything we took along as well.

Loved the Sunday evening photos on the Mountain from Shade. Followed by a great BBQ courtesy of Dan and Lydia, followed by a few drinks. Bikes all unloaded and ready to rock in the morning. Early to bed for me after a 5.5hr journey, got the airbed sorted for the night in the back of the van thanks to James and Lydia's pump and then subsequent gaffer tape to repair the gaping hole in it.

2 hrs later and totally frozen, airbed was flat.

Monday morning and the clouds rolled in as expected, but the rain amounts were way more than anyone forecasted. 0.4mm seriously Metoffice???? Got raped by the tyre man to put the wets in and out we went. Day went on getting gradually wetter but still had great fun, despite the wet feet and hands. Evening session was starting to dry so only did 2 of the 4 sessions and concentrated on getting the racetecs back on for Tuesday. Got a bit pissed off with some twat on a TT600 standing people up in the wet and overtaking on Yellows so had a word with the marshalls, how he can do it but the racers who were there Tuesday never did I'll never know.

9 sessions in a day was HARD work, as well as all the tyre changes etc. Lydia and James kindly grabbed me a cider as I was working to get the bike ready, then set off to repair my airbed. Easy done with the aid of Cerecs airbed repair kit, unfortunately he never found the hole in his own Followed all this with some fantastic grub courtesy of Dan, Lydia and James' excellent BBQ skills. Then a few Ciders and beers until so tired could barely talk and off to bed.

Tuesday the weather was great, slightly damp for sighting but after that a lovely dry track all day. As a lot of you know last year was my first on the rc8 and I really didn't like it. However I'm really loving it now. I managed to knock 4 seconds off my PB and did a 1.56 (not bad for an inters rider?) Didn't bother with filming, just wanted to concentrate on my riding. 2nd time using warmers and 2nd using wets, how anyone does trackdays without them I will never know?

Feel like I'm improving but I think I need to lose the fear somehow? Wish I was just that little bit quicker so I could get involved in fast groups on track battles and off track banter... Really need to work on my overtaking and stop worrying about what the guy in front "might" do. Maybe a move to Fast group would bring me on? What do you guys reckon??

Can't wait for next year, this one was epic! Really nice to meet everyone, what a great bunch of people. Sorry if I didn't come and say much I'm a quiet soul until I know people, next year force me to talk more! I'm not that miserable, just shy and brooding!
