Booked for this as a run out on the bike to start the track season.

Doing the 2 days. Never been there before and heard good things. Booked Inters for both days to get the bike working and learn which way the track goes.

Anyone else fancy it.

I've got a set of interact scrubs to kill that have only done 8 laps on a 600. You think I'll get the two days out a K2 rear?

Got a brand new set of Raintecs on order seeing Metzler have dropped their prices. Got spare wheels now so sorted come rain or shine.

Just noticed the 10% deal mate. Well spotted. I'll throw them an email and see if they'll honour it.

It's just down the road

I'm 6hours and 330miles away.

It'll turn out like this for me,

Working on sat, home, loaded, scoot down, kip in back of car.
Sunday. Wobble round turning left into right handers, fix bits that fall off the bike, kip in car.

Monday. Finally get bike set up and learn which way the track goes only to be a total zombie from lack of sleep and too much Relentless. Pack up, drive 330miles, unload, sleep, go start work at 7am on Tuesday.

It'll be an awesome two days. Tripodave might find a skinny hyper Scotsman spooned into his back if aforementioned kipping in car gets cold.

Get it booked and give me a tow round to learn the track.

What about RC8 dude? He'll be up for it, it was his info that tempted me to try Anglsey in the 1st place.

I'll bring the Tune ECU cable and we can drop bits down the throttle bodies and brick the ecu, erm no sorry, I mean remove the flies and load a map.

I'd say book Monday. By then all the bits I forgot to tighten will have fallen off the bike and the track will be a safer place.

That's a really good vid. I'm already looking forward to going!
I've just asked Kev from Projex if he can come and I think he's keen.

One tip I remembered from being there last year - stay wide of the apex on the curve after Church. You miss the bumps and getter a better line into the uphill before the left hander into Rocket. It means you can stay flat out for longer and you are braking in a straight line uphill.
blb

blb

That Lad is proper quick! Great quality vid too.

Certainly serves the purpose of making me want to go badly. Those straights will be awesome on the 8 as you say Dave, my bikes gonna be a bullet by the time this happens.

On trackdayriders forum one of the guys has checked the climate statistics for April and it looks very favourable too!

I was gonna go to the nurburgring again this year but I think I'm gonna sack all that off and spend the cash on some great days here. Can't wait!!!!
Viking

Viking

Dave. Who's Kev? I'd that the guys who's doing your motor? What's he riding?

BLB. Good idea. I've said it about 40times already but incase you missed it.....I've got 9 Easytrack days prepaid ready to book so will be on track a fair bit this year. The gold pack looks expensive, but they throw in a free day so it works out £69 per trackday. Considering Oulton is over £170 in the summer it's a big saving.

With that vid I don't think it's any faster than we'd be. I timed him at a 1.41 so I'll use that as a reference time seeing as the Battle Bikes didn't do Anglesey. He's got us on the straights but I can see a good few places we'd make time on him. The SD would have 'im on corner exit and a few turns. The straight doesn't look long enough for the big bikes to get away. I know at Oulton I could carry more speed through Cascades and exit faster but the big I4's didn't really lift their skirt and get going until island so didn't really pull that much. I'll have that 10 Hz GPS timer running and the bullet cam so we can come back to this post an laugh me when I'm doing 2mins.
tripoddave

tripoddave

Post missing.

blb

blb

Crikey Viking you overestimate my track ability! If I manage a 1.41 lap i'll eat my hat! Trying to work out whats likely based on other tracks times. Donny GP 2.5 mile circuit 1.59 lap, Cadwell 2.2 miles 2.00 lap, Brands Indy 1.09 miles 1min lap. I too will be using my android trackmaster lap timer, cracking bit of software that is.

So based on all this 1.50 I would be happy, 1.41 absolutely over the moon!

I would love to buy one of easytracks packs but I'm a hard up car salesman so very unlikely to ever have the capital to buy it.

Gonna have a chat with Cerec tonight but its looking like we'll be there on the Sunday all being well, come up Saturday after work.
Viking

Viking

BLB. It'll be cool. Team SD.net.

Good stuff. Kev can point out all the things I've fooked up with on the rebuild . I'll be brining my Tune ECU cable too so we can bugger up Skips bike. Maybe knock 10brake off the top end so I can stay with him this time.

I got an email from Paul at No Limits. They will honour the TDR 10% discount but because I've already booked and paid they'll refund me on the day.

Also said its no problem to move up to fast group for day 2. Just ask on he day.

Really looking forward to this. The long right from Church will be a good test for the Nichols and all the suspension work that's been done. That was the kinda corner it was very vague on before. (He says just before he tucks the front again and launches the bike into the Irish Sea )

I see they've got a bar/cafe thing. I dont drink anymore, but will be happy to sit in the bar and rip the piss out all of you lot. I sound like Wullie the Janitor from the Simpson's as it is. Wait till theres been a can of Relentless drunk. It's just spit, spray, and excitable rabble.

It's just to fast for me really , I have no idea what 4th gear is for , never used it . I changed my gearing a lot now so should be more fun.
Only a couple of hours drive for me so will be using the van Sunday morning.
If you have standard gearing on your RC8 , i would definately change it for anglesey.
Its the best track in the country for me I love it , really really grippy and easy to learn.
Just watch out for the rumble strips they are flag stones on top of each other.
The first left hander after start finish is the best Left hander in the country IMO , and you can genuinely scrape your knee at 120mph without sticking it out, on the long right hander leading onto the back straight

Agreed. There's places where it's spot on then some corners like the hairpin at Knockhill it's kinda inbetween gears. 2nd is too low and it's hard to get it back that far and 3rd is just a ballhair too high. Seemed to work very well at Oulton where your up 3rd, 4th, 5th a lot. Should be spot on for Anglesey.

Bob. That post on the corners has got me going. I love the fast flowing sweeping stuff. The long right looks and sounds fookin brilliant. That 1st left, from the vid anyway, looks like it could be tricky. It looks like the kinda corner I'd end up going in a bit to hot and run out of road on the exit. Honestly, the way the pricks going on you'd think i was asking for a ride at his wife.

So it's looking like a 10hour shift, pack up, 6 hour drive, kip in the car then two days on track. This means i may have to partake in some Relentless. As Skip knows, i'm pretty caffine sensitive so this may result in two days of me foaming at the gash and talking at 300mph. How many of you are there?

Can't make it.
No bike, basically.
Plus the knee probably won't go into leathers.
I promised to bring my generator so if BLB or Cerec want I can drop it off at Kev's today or meet them there tomorrow and they can borrow it and drop it back off on their way down south?
Let me know what you want to do.

Gutted for you Dave, hope you find a solution

Bad luck Dave, I hope all the pain and expense are worth it in the end. Are you still struggling with your knee from cadders?

I'm not sure about the genny? Mike and I aren't using warmers, so it would be a lot of extra stuff to drag just for the kettle. See what the others think I suppose.

I'm sure you must be practically live with Kev at the mo, so we may see you tomorrow anyway. I know Mike may be after your old airbox. Send him a PM mate.

Hope to see you tomorrow, chin up

Also what about offering your places up to someone on here and TDR? That'll help pay for the next days.

Anyone want places for the Sunday and Monday?
My bike isn't ready and did my knee in with WOR last weekend anyway.
Inters on Sunday
Advanced on Monday
£120 for the pair? That's a saving of £100
or £65 for either day.

pm me if interested.

Typing this from my sleeping bag in the back seat of Chateaux Freelander in the resort of Trac Mon Circuit Anglesey.

Interesting first day. Bike and head to sort out since the crash and so long out the seat.

Track is brilliant. Really fast in places and lots of time with it on its ear. Had a few problems in the 1st 2 sessions with it wheelying everywhere. It was down to me running it in too slow, not carrying enough speed then getting to hard on it out the corner. Was lifting in 2nd and all the way through 3rd so was having to hold it on the back brake to keep it from coming right up.

Then next problem, it was real unstable on the brakes. Feel I could brake later but I was having to wait for it to settle at the rear before I could turn it. That was even with the slipper clutch and blipping on the downshift. Came together in the last session and I just dropped it down to 3rd for the hairpins as it was manageable going 4, 3. It was hooking 2nd that was making it try and back in.

Sorted most of those issues out by running it in a gear higher, carrying more corner speed, pushing harder on the front, trail braking into the turn a bit and getting to the apex on a closed throttle. Took a bit of mind trickery with my head still fresh from the crash telling me it was gonna tuck. Nipped away at it and it came good. Had to keep tweaking the suspension in between sessions mostly adding compression front and rear and a few preload tweaks. Managed to get it dialed in nicely.

Went out with an instructor for some lines up round the long fast rights into the tight left at Rocket. Boosted my confidence a bit as he was very complimentary of the bike and my humble efforts and said I should be up a group. Was good to hear after so long off the bike and 1st time at the track. (and only 2nd full trackday on the SD!)

All the SD's got lots of attention. Loads of folk saying how well they go out there. Few instructors were all over it in the holding grid saying it looks a riot to ride.

Was hard to string a good rhythm of laps together as there was a lot of traffic. Managed to get a 1min 47:5 in the last session with a few mistakes. I know where I can gain more time. Looking at the splits on my timer all the best splits adds up to a 1min 46. Sub 1.45's are on the cards with a bit of focus. Instructor was telling me sharp end of the Advanced group is about 1.41. The ole tractor ain't far away, and there's loads to come from the bike and rider.

Had a cracking battle with Skip in the afternoon session. Lapped together for almost the full session with pretty much nothing in it. Passed eachother a few times but all nice and clean. Was awesome, tucked in behind his back wheel though the long fast 120mph right before Rocket watching him leave big black lines on the track.

So, 1st time ever in Fast group tomorrow. See how it goes. Forecasts to totally piss down. Might get a few sessions in on wets and pack up early for the 6hr track home.

Glad to hear it's going really well.
Hope you have a good day today.

Binned off day two. Totally pissing down. And with no garages or cover it was looking like a very depressing wet event. After learning so much and taking a big leap forward decided to leave on a high.

Great to meet Sugarmonkey,BLB and Cerec1. That RC8 can fairly lift its skirt and get out those corners. Some good grunt there. Cerec1 was going well on those Pilot road tyres with loads of cuts. They almost looked like wets! Monkeys 690 R looks the nuts.

Think I might have got a nod off Fatbob as he came off track on an S1000RR

My little cheapo eBay cam didn't work and kept turning off. I think BLB got a few vids.............including his trip back in the trailer of shame.

Just home. Will update with pics etc later.

Glad you had a ripper Viking, Shame about Day 2, good fun to ride in the wet but pouring is miserable. Are you sure your cam is crap, or is it just more weight saving
Very envious of all you boys who get to mix it up with other SD's and awesome tracks!

I've got a Contour bullet cam on order but it didnt arrive in time. Be good to see you at Cadders boys. I'll be fooked from Oulton but noting a can of Relentless wont sort BLB might have some vids including me passin on the brakes with it shaking its arse then promptly running out of fuel on the apex right in front of him and havingto pull off. (note to self. 3.75L of petrol isnt enough for a session. ) Que Cerec jumping in an ripping the piss out my OCD

Been mulling over the bike on the way home. Had 6hrs to kill so plenty time! I've posted tyre pic on TDR for the susention guys to check. I think it's 90% there but i mught be a wee bit out either end on a few things. It's really good, but i think it can be a wee bit better. Ended up tat as the pace increased i had to keep twaeking the suspention. Checked the clickers now i'm home and even with the revalve it's pretty near the top of its adjustment. Bike fels solid when i bounce it now it's cold, but felt pretty decent when actually riding it on track, suppose thats where it matters eh .

Think with the slipper i'll swap two springs back to standard to try and give it a teeeeeeny bit more slip. Like i said, it was better at the end of the day going in harder but was still moving about a wee bit much. If i can calm it dow a little bit more i can brake later again. Those Dual Carbon pads with the dual lines and Motul fluid are freakin awesome btw. Utter shit from cold but totally effortless when hot. Feels like i could faceplant right over the bars

Some pics from my phone....................Track pics wont be up till Wed......................

Bit of a situation on the way down. The trailer tyre started delaminating so had to drop it down to 50mph max and superglue the edges back down. Team Pikey Trackdays!!!

Spotted this real deal F40 on the A55. Sounded the business!

Walked the track on fri night. View looking back fron Rocket down to towards church. You come up towards where i'm standing. That long right away in the distance the corner our man Skip was leaving the big darkies on

Found the 1st on track pic.

Me and Skip. Polar opposites yet pretty much neck and neck over a full session....................apart from when the slimeball sneaks by on the sighting laps

Thats a set up for a late apex to Peel corner btw. I'm not lost.

Had a great time, I do have some video to edit of everybody. Its taking some time to pick out my highlights/lowlights Will continue the edit tomorrow night and try to get it posted too. Hopefully piccies will be up tomorrow too.

My little report will accompany my vid but suffice to say, I suffered a few little mishaps as usual. Great bunch of lads, nice to meet a few more faces. Sorry if I wasn't very talkative, I spent all the time beating myself up over my total lack of talent

Video should explain all.

Pics are up

I think Skip should pay 1/2 of any photos i buy coz the fooker is in all the best ones stalking me down on one of the session long battles. Cant get rid of him. Fella plagues me on track ,then shows up in my bloody pics too. Pain in the arse i tell ya.

Next question is. How do i link to the pics. Any time i try and post them it just come up image??

Right then I look (and am) really slow on here but here are my video highlights of Anglesey Easter Sunday. Need to sort some music over the top yet.

Otherwise this vid features Viking and Skip overtaking , me breaking down , Viking running out of fuel , Cerec nearly getting his knee down and Sugarmonkey hustling his 690r around . And a nasty false neutral at 100mph.

Stick with it, I know I'm slow. Still work to do to get confident, need to brake A LOT later and get the corner speed up. Still it was my first time here! Excuses excuses I know

Enjoy peeps!

Linga

Don't be too hard on yourself mate. In some of those corners you had good speed compared to the other bikes, you just need relax into the bike and trust that it will stop for you.
Looks like a really nice track to smash around... Green grass, god I miss green grass.
Don't you hate the false N's Throw you forward and you think the world's going to end the first few times
Found I got a few when I installed the QS, just me getting lazy and not being firm enough with the lever.
