OK ladies, you can drive waaaaaaaaaaaay out to go round and round at the Chuckwalla furnace, at nearly constant velocity (except for a brief straight, and 2 almost-"technical" corners), at a pace that's less then SoCal freeway speeds for most of you.
OR you can sign up with the fine folks at Fastrack Riders (primary sponsor: KTM), and run out of horsepower before you have to slow (on a 990 anyway), with technical corners that AMA pros find non-trivial to hang on to the bike for. Think you're "fast"? Ever had your knee on the deck doing 130 through a sweeper? Think you can brake? Ever gone from 140 to 40 as fast as you can and managed to keep the on the best line for corner entry? This is the place where guys who get paid to go fast practice (not to say they don't get out to CVR now and then). Last outing in January - in the paddock next to mine - was Chris Fillmore, wringing the neck of a SD 1290 just for grins, with his buddy Aaron Colton (for you lovers of stunt). As this upcoming trackday is a week after the MotoAmerica event at Road Atlanta, and nearly a month before VIR, who knows who'll be there ... it's also a WERA West race weekend (Saturday practice, Sunday racing).
If you live in LA, San Diego, or even as north as Santa Barbara, this is as about as close as it gets, saving you time and money. A world-class facility with all amenities including paddocks, power for your warmers, and even showers. You also get lap timers if you want, with times posted online following each session. If you let me know, you'd be welcome to share my paddock with me - which will be reserved. No gen-sets, canopys, etc. needed. There will be a race-tire vendor (who will mount/balance anything you bring - as inexpensively as you can find), suspension folks, and food concession.
This is also the safest facility in CA (US ?) this side of Laguna Seca. There's runout everywhere - and I don't mean chapparal, boulders, or even gravel. Lot's of AirFence too. fook up an entry (too hot), and you just ride it out ... With it's own medical clinic, and physician present whenever the track is "hot"; in addition to 2 paramedic vehicles, so that in the unlikely event that someone needs a ride to the nearest treatment facility, the track doesn't have to shut down waiting for the meat wagon to return.
Yeah, it's more expensive than most CVR/SOW/WSIR track days, but worth the extra dosh, offset by most in fuel cost alone. If you register more than 21 days in advance, you get $25 off - use the coupon code "EARLY". http://fastrackriders.info/early-bird-registration/
If you are first-timer (or haven't ridden there in 2 years), your discount is even better: http://fastrackriders.info/shop/new-to- ... day-rider/ $159 Friday. Yeah, they're like crack dealers - giving you a taste, then you're hooked. LOL
Hope see some of you out there!
