Arrived early (0630) only to find the weather was overcast and windy, forcast was for rain so i had to set about getting the wheels changed back from wet conti's to my beloved dunlop 208 rr's,that done went to sign on at get the briefing.
We only had two FE groups the third being Rob Mac's BSB race team so i went in the wanna be racer's group. 3 siteing laps later and we let rip and the pace quickend, the track was damp with dry patches and i was just beggining to think "this is gonna be easy " when exiting Mcleans a bit to much throttle had the rear break free and me out of the seat. some how i manage to save it (i think i dipped the clutch)
somebody was deffinately looking out for me today as i lost the front at Redgate saving that by sticking my right foot out, i was over taken by about 5 sports bike's down the dunlop straight and nearly ran into the back of one trying to out break em into the Foggy esse's i had to take to the grass to avoid him and ended up in the gravel, kept it up right and rejoined further down
And fook me on the next session i did the same again shooting off up the escaped road heading towards Goddards.
Now i love my Dunlops but this was getting dangerous we had quick short showers which made Donington more like an ice ring, people were binning bike's left, right and centre and virtually every session was interupted by red flags.
I decided to change wheels again back to wet's, only for it to stop raining and the sun to come out with a gusty wind which dried the place in no time
During lunch break the wind picked up the sun disapeared and it heaved it down, Rob Mac's race team anounced they would'nt be riding anymore today just as the novice group was red flagged yet again.
FE declared an open pitt lane and people started packing away, i decided to give the wet tyre's at least one lap in the rain so filled up with petrol and set off.
The place had transformed standing water was every where rain lashing down with a gale force wind, but..........we had loads of grip
I've been guilty of in the past of packing away when it rains heavy, but never again
