Ok guys I've taken the plunge and booked for 2 days. As an old guy I think this could be a bit punishing on my old muscles and bones. Any advice on how I might go the distance over 2 days.
Someone, poss Bic said, after the recent Brands day he was in pain after 1 day and I guess he ain't as old as me!
My 30 year old son may come along, can't face him out pacing his old Dad!
Any advice much appreciated.

Don't know what you're worried about I'm 4 stone heavier than you and you're an inch taller than me! (found your stats in the average superduke rider post!)

Seriously, Cross trainer and work hard for 25 - 30 minutes. Works the legs/cardio well and probably squat thrusts?

Then on the day a lot of mars bars, red bull during the day and then LOTS of beer in the evening to forget the pain?! I might ask Kerry my partner to come along, she's a Swedish massage therapist! If not doctors for a pain killing injection!

I might pimp her out for £25 a time! No boys not like that, purely for therapeutic massage!

I find very little helps keep me bike fit.

No matter how much crosstrainer / weights / running / or Judo I've done, the first time on a bike hurts - my quads kill me the next day.

It's likely because i'm pretty much got all my weight on the outside peg in a corner.

Ha ha ha. Someone with the same worries as me.

So, I'm determined that I will get my legs fitter for the 18th so that I will be in better shape towards the end of the day. It's definitely my quads that I need to work on - like you say it's the almost constant moving and re-positioning on the bike that does my legs in. I've not got unfit legs really, just not used to 8 x 20 minute sessions doing a workout. I have carbon replacement cruciate ligaments in right knee from bike accident 20+ years ago, (total failure really - very unstable), and of course the recent foot pinning/fusing so everything is a bit worse than for many - this is my excuse anyway.

I've been talking to my skier friends and they have said that I need to do the sitting against a wall with no chair thing - with my calfs at 90 degrees to the floor and my thighs horizontal and then just stay there till I can't anymore.

I ached most of the week after Brands but I'm still booked in for all 3 days in August, once you get out there and warm up those muscles again you soon get back into it, your not as fresh as the first day but you do loosen up.

It's the same when I go snowboarding (well when I went before I had kids) one trip a year would mean no practice all year and then I'd be out all day until the lifts closed to make the most of it, next day ache like fook, walk stiffly to the first lift of the day but a few runs later and your back into the swing of things again.

You lot try to hard! Try using the seat, enjoying the view and pottering about.

I'm too lazy on the bike (why change the habit of a lifetime?) but the one thing that does work is have a kip in between sessions. If you can do it, it seems to work - I think it is probably mental rather than physical but I notice that when I get knackered I make mistakes, go slower etc. Having a kip doesn't make you fitter but it does stop you getting worse/slower - which i one way of making the most of what you've got. With a bit of practice, I've managed to do this in the end garage on an open pit lane track day so you can really do it anywhere.

Having said that, I'm assuming that Cadders is going to be non stop thrashing, crashing, repairing, pointing and laughing and if anyone falls asleep they'll have their eyebrows shaved off and rude words written on the back of their leathers - so maybe not.

I will do a Bikram (hot) Yoga class everyday in the 10 days leading up to it. Just did 14 classes in 13 days in the build up to The Dirty Weekend and the increase in stamina and flexibility helped so much tearing round that dirt track, especially as it got bumpier as the weekend went on. Also has the advantage of being full of scantily clad hot girls It really is a win win

Drinking plenty of fluids with electrolyte content is the best way to help recovery and prevent cramp. Just drinking water isn't good enough, as it will just flush straight through you. Electrolytes are what allow water to hydrate your cells. Personally I use Nuun electrolyte tablets. They are carb/sugar free which aids absorption rates, taste pretty good too. Coconut water is a great source of electrolytes as well. Bananas are a great source of potassium which helps muscles recover.

Get the bike set up....the better it handles ..the less it takes out of you

Relax...riding relaxed takes less effort

Ride within yourself...stress makes you really tired

Have Fun....you only feel it after you stop

My solution: I shall just potter around enjoying the view like IMOM.
Less stressful that way.

^^^^ Hmmm sounds like a winner to me.

I may not be going to crashfest, but I may be looking into going to Bikram! For personal fitness gains of course

After every trackday or enduro/mx or greenlaning day i swear i'm gonna get fit for the next one, sadly this never last's more than a couple of day's before i crack a can of lager and dive back into a bag of crisp's

So for the crashfest the only exercise i'll be doing is loading the bike into the van the night before and setting up the gazeebo at Cadwell.
I can manage a few brisk laps around the track but by lap 4 i'm huffing and puffing and requiring an oxygen tent,so if anyone's struggling to get past lap 4+ will be the easiest. I do occaisionally get the odd second wind and manage to pass a couple of rider's now and again though but usually am content just circulating at a steady pace and enjoying the day.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of Bikram yoga as Colonel Klinck never appears to be out of breath unlike the rest of us

On the saturday night, I shall be in serious training for the crashfest by consuming plenty of burgers and beer, this should see me in good stead to handle all of the bbq and alcohol to come throughout the course of the crashfest

As for any aches and pains brought on by pootling around on my motorcycle, I'm going to fly over to california for a prescription which should sort it
