Richard got an email from Jane Omorogbe about the No Budget Cup and they have decided to cancel the event except for one round in Anglesey as they are expected to make a financial commitment to the tracks shortly and in her words they "Don't have enough committment from uk riders for that to make sense. We appreciate the support, but "What a great idea!" just isn't enough."
It goes on a bit about how popular it is in belgium and how many people signed up for it the first season because of how cheap it is but at the end of the day, I understand that they would indeed be nuts to run it without enought teams signed up and paid for but if you're going to hold 4 out of 5 of your events in wales and then one other at the completely other side of the country then people aren't going to want to commit to it.
They then go on to offer the chance for UK teams who have signed up to compete in various rounds across europe if they wish or to get a full refund.
They are also offering them free places on the track day on the morning of the Angelsey event although it seems all teams who choose to just do the Anglesey round will still have to pay the £75 no budget cup season membership fee so it's only any good if you actually wanted the track time in the first place as you'll then recoup some of that £75, personally I figured I'd get enough riding during the event, without doing another 5 sessions beforehand.
We obviously would also have had to pay the £75 fee but that was our choice to just do Lydden.
I suppose if they get an influx of last minute support things might change but seems very unlikely.
I hope they come back next year with more tracks and can make a success of it but unless they get the tracks sorted I don't think things will be much different, otherwise they may as well call it the welsh budget cup.
