Naked bikes vs Sportbikes (laptimes)

Hi,

I have always wondered whats the difference between laptimes with same driver for example:

Comparison 1: 990 SuperDuke vs 600 cc sportbike (ie. CBR 600 RR)
Comparison 2: 990 SuperDuke vs 1000 cc sportbike (ie. GSXR 1000)

Of course the lap time difference between different kind of tracks may differ a lot..

'DRIVER'............

Far to many variables........unless you are racing within a defined class....and trackdays are more about enjoyment...what you like riding

I have easily passed / lapped BMW S1000RR.....and been passed by 125cc (Big time)

Rough Rule of thumb is SD = 600cc and older 1000cc with notable exceptions ...skill will out....

I have also passed S1000RR, CBR 1000 etc drivers, but that's why I'm asking the difference between same driver in same lap, only a different bike under the driver

It would depend on how many straights ...how long and which year bike....when/ if the RIDER reached his/her bottle limit

Corners being equal, braking equal.....the difference would be the straights ...as much as 5 seconds a lap on some tracks on the latest kit I would suggest maybe more

Maybe I just have to borrow a sport bike from someone here in Finland and test it I would have hoped that someone would already have owned two bikes and go try it to track days

Plenty of guys on here have had both.

Some at the same time.

One i recall was about 2s a lap quicker on his RC8 than his Superduke.

I think IIRC the guys who ran in the RC8 cup who also did the superduke cup were only a couple of seconds a lap faster at Cadwell on the RC8s than they were on the Superdukes

Obviously they would have been MUCH faster had they perfected the art of holding the end of the grip to attempt elbow down.

or not.

At places like Parc Algar the main straights are the killer.

Lack of power and a aero package similar to a house brick see's the Jap litre bikes motor off big time.

I'm pretty sure that's from PB and it's refers to their test, er "track"

I had been on the same tracks with both my SDR and different litre bikes (RC8, zx10 and S1000RR).

The difference for me is just a few sec. (2-3 sec on 2 min lap)

KTM Superduke 1.48,92 2010

To make a long story short
1000cc > 600cc > Superduke
The difference between 1000 and 600 depends on the track, between 1-3 Seconds
600cc to Superduke about 2 seconds, maybe less. Everything with the same tyres and comparable suspension (stock stuff a little modified)

Recently I took the SD to Summit Point, a track that I race on with a CBR1000RR, in hopes to put down some lap times that would be competitive in the SD's respective class. 6 seconds was the difference, same rider, same track, SD vs. 1000RR. But that's a heavily modified 1000. A year ago on a stock 1000 I was doing the same lap times as the SD this time around. But me riding a year ago versus now is quite different.

I'm sure some more tweaking and fine tuning of the SD would get me a couple more seconds, and the times I was getting would yield just outside podium range, but alas, I love my SD too much to sacrifice her to the gods of racing...for now.

Later that same day I took out my beater 600RR to give the SD a break. It truly is a beater and the suspension sucks. I was a second faster on the 600 than the SD.
