Stalker and myself are using our prize of a free event by going to Portimao next May. Fits perfectly between 2 races and meant to be a fun track for the SD. Hotel on the beach and hopefully as it's beginning of June so no rain. Already at least 4 SD/Rs and a Tuhomo going so could be an early Eurocrashfest.

http://nolimitstrackdays.com/uk-trackdays.html
It is good fun on SD, apart from the main straight which makes Almeria look like Brands indie!

Who are the confirmed mandlebar riders?

Myself, Stalker, Dan, Dave and Chris from No Limits, hopefully Mr and Mrs GinReaper, Keith and Monty but they won't be with mandlebars and who ever feels like coming.

I might be up for this.
I could be well up for this as well, get an extra 2 days holiday next year as well. This could be a good use of them!
Get involved people.

Right who is flying from where? Times? What airport are we flying too?

Shall we stay an extra day?

I did have some luck, I never did end up paying for the hire bike or any fuel or tyre changes lol. Only cost me 70 euro when I was there!

Sorry Neil, couldn't turn down £700 for my wheels!
I've already looked at flights, East Midlands to Faro, going on the wed morning coming back either on the Mon or Tues £138. Few extra days there to relax.
i too am looking to take an extra few days to chill out , pretty sure i wont feel like working
So how about arriving on the evening of the 28th and leaving late the day after.

So 2 extra nights?
Think we need to find this place

This is just the sort of thread to get us through a gritty wet autumn
I'm def considering this trip.
dont just consider gentlemen ! get it booked
I'm just going to enjoy the thread.

1 It's cheaper
2 You don't have to listen to Stalker for 4 days!

You should do a race season with him

Can't interest you then Pete? I know you like to stay focused though.
listen here fat pete . .

just coz you have pulled a bird that is a bit handy dont mean you can get all lippy . lol

now get yourself booked and come out to porti for a giggle
I'm up for this.
I've never been to Portimao, it looks awesome and everyone who's been there loves it.
Won't be on a KTM though and hopefully not on the CBR either as I think it would be close to top speed before it even gets upright on that main straight.
I think I shall do the 3 days on track followed by 2 days of this:
http://enduro-portugal.com/
I am very interested.
Great track (minus one bit) and some good guys going.

I will have to think about it though.
I imagine it's the knowledge that I'm going has persuaded you to change your mind.

When are you guys looking at sorting flights? soon or next year?

Need to work where we are flying from, dates, times and airports.

Booked my leave, finish nights on the Wednesday morning on the 28th then not back till a week or so later, so earliest I can leave is the Wednesday before with out using more leave.
Am I being thick, probably, or are there no details on the hotel or details of transport between track, hotel and airport

Think we can sort cars out nearer the time but I don't mind driving.

I think NL usually use the same hotel at Portimao, Im up for going a day early and staying extra couple of days but im not fussed if we dont.

I believe they are slightly more organised that FE.

I the hotel is at the East end of the strip.

It's about 30 minutes to the track.

I'm now booked.
Flights booked as well with ryan air (which makes me a bit of a hypocrite after last time- I'm not proud of myself):

Flight status is CONFIRMED
FLIGHT(S) SUMMARY

East Midlands (EMA) to Faro (FAO)
29 May 2014 - FR1766
EMA 16:55 hrs›FAO 19:50 hrs

Faro (FAO) to East Midlands (EMA)
02 June 2014 - FR1957
FAO 06:55 hrs›EMA 09:55 hrs
Right then who is going
I'm going to book tonight, flying from Bristol.
Can we trust NL to look after the bikes? Dan seemed to have been given crap service from FE after Almeria last year.

Just spoke to NL.
The general consensus is that taking wets is a must.

I'm on the lookout for a second set of wheels now. Shocked at how much people want to charge for a 15yr old set of wheels and what is this with every man and his dog taking the disks off?
So the obvious question - is there room in those crates for a spare set of wheels?

When I went crated with tracksense there was not - I spent 2.5 days as a spectator after the death of my beloved Green rear wheel.
They say there is room for a spare set of wheels or tyres in their literature.
David Hathaway do the transport, they deliver some of our new bikes in "stillages" lots of space around for wheels. They have tie downs and buckets for the front wheels etc. MUCH better than having the bikes all shoved in the back of a lorry like FE do.
Thing is for me unless its going to rain ALL day I will just wait for it to dry up, it is after all a sunny climate and rainfall for June is quite low looking online.
One website I looked at said Portimao had 26 wet days in June last year!
Everywhere else seems to say average rainy days in June is 1. Here's hoping!
Where did you get your info from?
I was in, but now I'm out. Bugger

On a less cheeky note, I've just taken delivery of a now loved SDR......fresh fluids, chain & sprockets, replaced broken engine bolts and a battery full of juice. Tempted for a quick blat out but not sure if anyone would notice it's running slicks? Apparently Redline already took it out earlier

Nice one DP! This is shaping up to be a good year!
I wasn't keen on the crates, but I've looked at how I can adapt my long term packing regime.
Swindon as a drop off is pretty crap for me, despite NL saying "there may be a south East drop point" on numerous events, it never appears.

I did Parc Algar on FE's first trip there, and despite having a massive crash in the wet (120 MPH as I left the bike) I've always wanted to go back.
It really is a great track, with some features that are really unique.
The only draw back is the main straight. On a 990 you will get well and truly dusted. Even a 600 will pull a decent gap if they have the correct gearing.
Don't fit lower than 16/38, you'll hit the limiter in top way early.

Even the back straight is fairly long, but nowhere near the issue the main one is.

By the time I'd added a bag, my flights came to nearly £400.
Glad you are aboard mate.
The middle group was full so booked in with you guys.
I hope they have some room to move riders around.

Appears Simon Crafer will be at this:

http://store.motovudu.com/motovudu-inst ... -crafar-1/

I will try and resist shouting at him "GAS IT, PIN IT......GIVE IT EVERYTHING YOU CAN!".

So European contenders are

Colonel Klinck
Stalker
Superdan
Ducati Pete
Woody 80
Cerec
Dubsandbikes
Tripod Dave
Fuel

Any more
i am not a contender mate, i hopefully will make it if they take this cast off and so will just be happy to toddle round and enjoy the sun.
but mainly not come off and be able to go to work the next week.

Who wants to share a car that is arriving on Thursday evening?
If so, what time does your flight get in?

Who wants to share a car that flies out on Sunday night / Monday first thing / Monday midday?

So I'll kick off:
Thursday: Yes. I get in on Thursday night at 19:50
Monday: Yes. Monday first thing.
(happy to wait at the airport for later arrivals on Thursday and happy to do an airport run on Sunday evening)

I arrive Wednesday and leave Monday night. Sharing with Stalker and possibly Tim Rush.
Right I am still on the fence with this even though I have it booked and everything paid for but tyres and spending money, I need to make a choic fairly soon so the place can be sold if need be.

Going to do my best to get bike ready for this, its not that bad, ok it is, but its fixable, took it to bits today, but I fear I may get parts and find I need more or that I wont get a chance to test it before I go if it is ready, also need to get the engine valve clearances done while I have the heads checked to make sure no dirt in there.

If I sell my place I will still be there and have a holiday and make an awesome Gopro film.

Throttle bodies are broke the fuel rail is broken its $199 just for that, also a connector is broke so just going to buy some more TB's

Damage so far that I can recall

-Lockstops blown off again, fixed them once with bolts and an ali spacer off the older milli, need to do that again, and drill the steering damper bolt out of the frame (again) may be quicker to buy a new bottom yoke.
-Ohlins damper broke
-front mudguard broke
-clocks broke (got a spare set)
-my only key broke (got spare lock and 2 keys so easy fix)
-front pastics broke that hold the clocks to headstock, cheap from aprilia but took ages to arrive
-front tank support broke
-fuel hoses from throttle bodies broke
-every bit of race body work broke
-front nearside brake disc bent
-wiring is not as bad as first thought, some connectors broken but think its salavagable, looked worse than I thought some had just ripped out of the plastic case but the combined strength of them kept it together.
-battery broke
-30amp job at the rear broke
Rear subframe bent to hell
-fuel tank connector ripped off but believe I can put the pins back in if I put them in right order and it will be fine.
-shone a torch down the valves and bits of sand/dirt in there
-bars
-clutch switch broke off
-Halfords hot start battery cable
-Rearsets, got spares few days before race, did not think I would need them so quick.....

Thats all I can remember........

To be fair the Tuono guys on the AF1 forum have been absolutely mint helping me out.
you can always take my sd danny boy

I have quite a few spare from the 05/6 Pete. Certainly have a taco you can have. What else are you needing?
I still need to look at it properly, but the first things that I don't have are the Taco, and the speedo unit - mainly cos the case is smashed, I would switch internals to a new case.

Could you PM me a price for the taco please?
Bad times, are you alright though?

Peter! Firstly I thought you had enough spares amassing to build a spare bike or two?! Is this your attempt to think "fook it" and buy a 1290?

Hell if I can get mine rebuilt (hopefully) for this you have no excuses
This ain't turning out to be a good year guys.
Don't know if you know but our mate Viking had a major off at Donington yesterday.
pete !!!!!!!

are you ok yourself buddy ?
Sorry to hear this Pete, hope you're OK.
I'm OK thanks guys. I did roll over quite a bit but luckily I was just bruised. It felt like the heavyweights had used me as a Randori partner for a few hours. I had a bit of a headache too! The longest lasting mark is down the side of my forehead, it appears I hit my head pretty hard and the lining of my lid left it's mark! I was wearing my 1995 Kushitani Cagiva group Ducati leathers, a little bit of history died.

I have had a chance to look at the bike. I had a shock when I realised how out of line the front wheel was, but after slacking off all the yolk bolts letting it find it's own path it looks OK now.

Everything on the bars took a kicking. My starline works but has the optional crazy pathing display. My bicycle bell is dead.

Usual trauma to levers pegs etc.

The rear sub frame is bent, one of the cans has been pushed in and twisted at the inlet, and from previous experience 5 years ago, I expect the link pipe is also bent.
My biggest enemy is time on this, I'm working away for at least the next week.

Does anyone know how Gordon is BTW?
Gordon is fine but lucky as a following bike just missed him. However the rear of his bike took a bit of a battering. I think it carried on upright for a while and came to a stop in a few bits when it hit a tyre wall There are some pics on FB https://www.facebook.com/gw2910?fref=ts
I think the only things I don't have or can't make do with damaged will be link pipe and cans. I may be able to get by with something to help the seal on the damaged can.

Is there some kind of tape I could use under the clamp?

As I said it's time really, I'm packing my bags now for work.
I have spare complete SDR Akra s/s pipes and round silencers but both latter split around inlet stub - could be fixed temporarily with glued s/s large washers - let me know.
I've got a Y piece, that I was gonna put up for sale soon.

Pete, if you cannot make this and you have not spotted it there is a guy wanting a place on TDR under the wanted section, I would prefer it if you could go though

My bike is working just awaiting the exhaust and fairings have booked a little car and everything else so good to go
Thanks Dan.
I'm waiting on some bits to come through, I will make a decision after I get to grips with the bike this weekend.
All the best Pete: looking fwd to seeing you there!
Does anyone know whether there's power in the paddock at Portimao? Am looking to acquire some tyre warmers but don't want to pack a genny onto the limited space on the stillage unless I have to!
Cheers Dan. I did see those warmers, but wasn't sure cos they seem so much cheaper than other options!

Of those I know running warmers on here, I think quite a few are using HWW (£320 new) and Neil is using Chickenhawks I think (start at £247 and go up from there).

I don't want to spend £300 if I can spend a third of that and get a set that are as good or thereabouts. I guess from your comment you've had no problems with yours.

Grateful for any thoughts on the matter, not sure what to do at the minute!

Thanks Dan, appreciate the input. I think I will roll a dice to choose between Holroyd and Diamond and spend the rest on something else!
I use tyre warmers - it helps with tyre life and pressure consistency. I use an ancient pair which were the cheapest I could find.
Definitely taking WOW. Scored a 2nd hand set of wets for £120.

Need tyre recommendations folks as I need to place my Parkitt order by Wednesday - can't take any since I'm taking wets.

Wanted to order a set of D211 slicks but they can only get a 190 rear, pretty sure I've got a 180 fitted (Tripod do you know what you sold me? At work so can't check!) and a 190 won't fit or is this false information?!

If not a D211 in 190 then they have Dunlop KR Slicks (more cash monies mind) or what else should I be asking for? Love the D211 slicks I have on so wanted to stick with a slick (maybe psychologically better )
To be honest D212GP treaded are great, I have a spare front brand new for £100 if you want it, just order a rear.

I am running a scrub set on day 1 or until they die.
too be honest woody my son, it wont make a blind bit of difference at the sort of pace you are doing

maybe

the sd runs best on a 180, dont mess with it unless you are going to reset the geo to to counter the difference. i have always used the conti slicks on the sd as they are a bit harder and last a bit longer in my experience.
Dunlop don't do a treaded d212 in 180/55. No plans to either when I asked em at NEC. D211 are enough for 120bhp.

Woody, Plater sold me a 190 Dunlop rear at Almeria, and despite reservations I trusted him.

It felt fine and I think I did my fastest laps on it.
The KR series slick front was super. 125 / 65 I think.
Cant check as I'm in Scotland working.

MOAR!
It was a fooking amazing 3 days on track and for me 6 days away. The track is simply insane! It's like riding a mental roller coaster Had some brilliant laughs out on track playing with Stalker, Keith and Superdan. Event was brilliantly run, so much room in the stillages! I think we bought back in addition to our 4 spare wheels about 7 tyres as well. Night life was just as good a laugh. Meals for a amazing steak and a few beers was coming out at around €23 a night. And did I mention we laughed our arses off Would go back in a heart beat! Last day spent getting stoned on the beach. Perfect holiday!
Only 3 pics I bought.
