Out greenlaning yesterday with Fasturnip in the wet blustery conditions which on my XR was truely a joy blasting along the lane's at full pelt without a care in the world
All was fine untill we got to some technical stuff, the first obstacle was a freshly dug deep drainage ditch, which had very steep almost vertical side's about four feet high. Turnip without a seconds thought plunges down and nails it out the other side with ease,me i'm fannying about looking at it and contemplating my exact line eventually i drop down into the ditch give it a fistfull and exit the ditch with the bike vertical on the back wheel at the same time catching my left foot in a root pulling me and the bike over to the left and into the bushes in a heap
Luckily for me the landing was quite soft so no real harm done other than a dented ego
Crash two came an hour later,we entered a wood and climbed the steepish hill as normall up to a small track, looking up further the hill was really steep and at first glance you'd think "No Way" or at least that's what i was thinking as Turnip fired his XR up into the unknown and soon dissapeared from view in the undergrowth.
I could hear his engine as he gunned it in the distance,so following his tyre tracks i pinned the throttle in 1st and sneaked 2nd at full revs as i rocketed up up and up to my amazement dodging the trees up the steepest hill i've ever ridden up.
Every thing came to a sudden slow motion recollection as i ducked a low slung branch but did'nt spot the tree stump that my front wheel hit sending it skywards looping the bike overbackwards Talk about lucky, the bike got snagged on a tree so stayed where it was.Me i landed in a heap on my back,rolled/slid about 20yds down missing every tree and stump without a scratch the XR suffered a smashed hand guard, crushing the metal loop onto the brake lever which was easily sorted with a few well placed kicks. Seven kicks with the decompressor in to clear the flooded cylinder release then after one kick she fired into life fantastic bit's of kit the Honda XR 400
The older i get the more i pansy about looking at obstacles thinking "That looks difficult" and generally putting doubt in my ability's to do it the lesson learned again today is stop thinking about it just do it
Me and Turnip before my 2nd off, note Turnip's smashed headlight, that'll teach him to get too close
