[quote="SDSmurf"]4100km and no oil usage at all. Includes 3 trackdays

Your one lucky bloke if you're bike has'nt supped any oil in 4100 k's i bet mine has used at least 2 x litre's if not more (can't remember exact amount ) over the 6700 miles it has covered it's had regular oil change's as well (4 x oil + 4 x filters)
It used too realy piss me off the amount it used but now i've just accepted the fact that it drinks more than any other bike i've ever owned
I mentioned this to my KTM dealer on the last service (4500mile) and he assured me it was ok it's still under warranty but i keep a carefull eye on the oil level sight tube.

I guess I'll have to start checking mine more often. If these things drink oil, I'm buying an extended waranty.

I ran my bike hard for the first 500 miles and then changed to 10w60 Elf full synthetic and I'm still running the piss out of her... So far, no oil use with a little over 1,000 miles on her. I've never owned a bike that used oil, however, I've heard many stories of other bikes using oil that I've owned. I think it's probably the same as any other machine. If you break it in too soft (by the book) they end up drinking oil as a result.

Of all the bikes I've owned, there seems to be more complaining about issues with the SD's than anything else. What's the deal??

I drank oil once, not a good time at all. Cant figure out why my ol'girl likes it so much. Based on the past post's, Im guessin she is consuming more than twice the spec's. I do have a small leak, at which I can not seem to locate, and it is very very intermentant. I think that this seems to be more of an issue because we are SD owners. It takes a special breed to love and cheerish the SD, and with that comes the attention to details, and the fear that she may be not at 100% all the time. Hell, could just be a flaw in the near perfect bike, but I dont believe that, I like the before mentioned better.

but were the bikes from Austria? were they V-twin's. (fish oil, high in omega 3's are very tasty and yummie good for yer blood!) olive oil too.

I ride the snot out of mine and have never had to add oil, this is why the thing has an oil tank on it in the first place, they.....

all manufacturers intend on having some oil consumption, it has allot to do with conditions and environments that varies widely,

it is like a machine is made to work perfectly on the equator may not function as well on the polar ice cap,

they have to perform well in all of the different countries and altitudes so on so fourth.

Then thare are emission standards that all countries are different on with varying grades and types of fuels, you can not be all things to all peoples.

It would be as pondering the japs do not build all motorcycles for all peoples,,,

they seem to lack the real character of the SD, it is unmatched, they fall by the wayside on having a great personality.
