2016-2017 winter mods/upgrades/repairs

What are you guys planning on doing to your rides this off season?

I usually plan on doing things to my bikes for the off season rather than having them off the road during the riding season (obviously). My SD is pretty well sorted so the only things I plan on doing is changing out the grips, taking out the mirror mount bolts that needed replacement upon purchasing it (PO did a trackday and lost them). The replacements rusted so hey need to be cleaned/coated. And the normal storage stuff (oil/filter change, tender, disassemble/clean/lube/reassemble.).......oh and I noticed an exhaust leak has surfaced at the big collector under the seat the last time I rode it, so I gotta check that out.

I got a Yamaha Warrior 1700 that's getting a slew of go fast/ergonomic mods, a Ducati Paso that needs some TLC and my never ending '85 interceptor project (someday it'll be finished). So that stuff will keep me occupied in the garage and away from the wife and (5) kids.......

So what's planned?

I'm planning to just keep on top of the UK road grime, salt and general muck that gets all over the bike in the Winter. I too seem to have less time to ride now a days but the SD is still my main mode of transport 12 months of the year so in the winter it gets used for longer trips rather than just for pleasure so I give up trying to keep it looking immaculate and just coat the thing with AFC50 and WD40 and look forward to the Spring when it gets a propper going over. My jetwash was the best investment a few years ago and makes this whole routine a lot easier.

I'm very tempted to pull all my aftermarket parts off and prepare my 14' for trade in on a new 17'

Getting the bike in the house next few weeks to do some stripping and cleaning
got myself a nice quickshifter for Christmas so going to fit that while its stripped

Oil and filters/screens (i do these every year, regardless of mileage.
And this winter i'm going to take of the brake calipers Ans disassemble and clean them.
They've only ever gotten new pads, so i thought they could do with some maintenance after 10 years.

Ordered the Andreani Adjustabale Hydraulic Cartridge Kit from Omniaracing just B4 X-mas. I hope they get here sometime B4 spring.
I hope Rottweiler performance upgrades the mount for the Scotts steering damper. I have a damper that I pulled off another bike that I will mount on the SDR.
Id like to buy the beefier KTM triples clamps. Probably will.
I have a used DJ QS that I bought off Ebay. Ill throw that on sometime this winter.
Upgrade the rear shock. Not sure which one yet. Dam they are expensive. Cant even buy a used one for 1/2 the price.
Light weight battery.
Those used BSTs look nice. To pricy for me right now.
I have the Rotty air box. Akra pipe, Arrow CAT delete & DJ PC5. The bike runs well. 4th gear wheelies with just a snap of the wrist.
Different tyres.
That's about it.
Oh. Id still like to do something about this orange frame. That's a lot of work to strip the bike & paint the frame. Black vinyl wrap may be the answer??
Its -20C up in northern Alberta today. Hurry up spring.

Probably going to repack my Akro can and mid-pipe. I've noticed it has gotten obnoxiously loud (never thought I would say that) and doesn't seem to rev as fast as it used to (No backpressure).

Clean my wheels. I've let them get way too dirty and I just abhor cleaning them.

I do a valve check every winter.

Might install my PCV and Autotune if I ever get my ass to the store and pick up a switch for it.

Install new CRG Lane splitter mirrors since mine are 5 years old and more bronze than black.
