Wondering if anyone can help me here.

I'm looking to get more weight off the bike. It'll be needing a chain soon so plan is to move to a 520 conversion.

Can't find anything listed under SD or RC8 apart from KTM's crazy priced Powerparts kit.

Called B&C Express. They can make an anodised 520 rear from a Renthal blank and supply a 112 link 520 Tsubaki chain. (I want to add a link to lengthen the wheelbase a tad to calm the wheelies down out of the slower stuff). They can't supply a front though so would have to start trying to get someone to machine a 525 down. Chain and rear sprocket will be £120 with a 4 week wait for manufacture.

So before I go ahead and go for the kit and try and get at KTM PP RC8 16T front has anyone got a source or link for a supplier?

Rob, who did you and GoGo use?

"I'm looking to get more weight off the bike. "

Yo Viking. Not chain related, but weight related. Not sure if you ditched the gas tank shock rod prop stick....It's not needed..I don't use one. I bet money you already ditched yours.

Cheers

Already gone a while back.

I was looking for a UK supplier tbh. Might just have to go with the above.

Cheers. I'll have a good look at that. I'm sure B&C can order in the one I pick.

I was just hoping there was a full 520 kit out there for the RC8 that I could just throw right on.......well there is, but it's powerparts and costs a freakin fortune.

Try talon engineering in Yeovil, they have loads in stock and they make them on site.

I bought KTM PP counter sprockets from Ron at KTMTwins. They are all listed as RC8 parts, not SD/SDR.
The rear I had made by Sprocket Specialties in the US and also had a PP one. The drive sprockets are only $75 US or so but the rears are a ridiculous $130 US or so. That is why I had one made.
I used the very expensive DID 530ERV(I think) chain and it lasted the whole season plus almost two years of track days.

I was looking into these guys. I have posted this link before. Might be worth a shot. There are a couple of guys on here that have bought them I think?

Matheus, had a look at the site. Looks good but It's a bit of a pain having to do the translate.

Rob, I've sent those guys an emailenquiring about their lightweight Ti Moly rear sprocket. That looks good.

For a front sprocket................ i've found this one............

A chain shouldnt be a problem.

Russ, from those specs i'm not sure what one would be best for the job. Got no idea about pin lenght and roller diameter etc. I'd assumed a 520 would be a set size and i just picked whatever number of links. I'm looking to get a 112 link chain so i can still run 16/40 but add a link to lengthen the wheelbase slightly to calm it down a little bit out the 2nd gear corners.

I'm thinking the 520 ERV3

That's the chain I used. You can't ignore the amazing life I got out of mine.
There has been talk here that racing is easier on chains because of the almost constant velocity, more or less.

I have also heard theories related to using non o-ring a.k.a. cheapshit chains because of lower drag and the sealed chain not being necessary on a track and a well maintained track bike. Make some sense to me.
After all, these exotic chains were developed because of how poor most people are with chain care.

I forgot to mention that I lost 4.5 pounds of rotating mass with the conversion.
Or at least I think that's what I measured, way back then.

Got a reply. The Ti Moly rear is $150 plus $50 shipping.

Fair enough its got a lifetime warranty but to go on about how light it is and then charge $50 shipping is a joke.

fook that. It'll just go for and anodised Renthal

Gordon,
One thing I have figured out about you is that you are a man of principles.
I like that!
You, again, are spot on.
It ain't the money. It is just ridiculous to charge so much shipping. I think it cost less than $20 US to mail the clutches to Belgium, UK and some other places. And they are HEAVY!
I would mention to them if you should ever happen to email them again, the some of their countrymen have been trying to get their stuff used abroad but they sure aren't doing much to make it happen.
Too bad. The stuff sounds nice.
Make me a bit embarrassed for pimping them.

Is that a polite way of saying I'm and awkward bastard. I think it's more to do with being Scottish and tighter than two coats of paint. Gotta bear in mind I'm a guy who sleeps in his car for days and lives on one meal a day when down doing trackdays.

Anyway. I've got a good relationship with my local bike shop. They are one of my mates sponsors.

Spoke to him about it. He said that DID chain is the one he sells to the front runners in the Scottish Superbike series and is good for 200bhp.

He only sells it on a trade account. Managed to do some haggling and got it for trade! Obv can't post price but very good deal. Also got Talon to make me up a 520 40t rear anodised black.

Chain will be in tomorrow. Sprocket will take 2 weeks to make.

All in the full conversion is costing just under 180quid.

I've found an old credit card the wife thought was cancelled. Tried to call and cancel but the nice lady on the phone offered 9months zero % if I kept it. Be rude not to eh. Where's that Powerparts catalogue!
