Adapting baffles to quieten the noise?

Ok have some remus hexacones which with db inserts measure about 104-105db.

However this is too loud for some trackdays and am trouncing all around the country next year to fail the noise testing.

Some tracks are like 98db

The baffles are crimped and only let a small amount of gas/noise through.

Part of the baffles is missing after they detached from the weld at Bedford TD.

So would filling the baffles with thick wire wool and a round piece of metal with holes in work?

The way they fit sound can still resonate around and through the packing as there is a large gap, maybe weld in some more metal with holes? buy a db eater?

Should I get them re packed?

EDIT also need to check my graphite ring, changed it earlier in the year but surely it would not make that much difference?

Should I just say fook it and get some akras? (again)

They look ace and sound ace I dont have any probs at Cadwell they are 105bd but know brands and that is less

Dan,

the rear gasket can make a BIG difference in my experience. Make sure it's super tight.

If you can't afford the akras, try a cheaper brand. My Leos are about £580 new and have passed at Brands with baffles in on an evening session. Although I dont think they'd pass for the GP track (depending on mood of the tester).

Either that or get your repacked? How many miles have they done?

You could always have the diameter of the exit pipe reduced a little bit....you can hear what difference it makes just by masking it with your hand on idle....it can really remove a lot of noise.

I'm not an expert on baffles but your pics look like they allow the exhaust to go straight through with only the reduced exit slowing the expanding gas. If you can get someone to make up some similar components you could try and mod them by putting holes or slashes into the surface.

I maybe a bit of a saddo but when I joined this Forum I started reading the technical section from the beginning, (I had insomnia for weeks is my excuse), but way back there is a huge thread by someone called Gregz, (I think), and he did a load of experimenting with baffle design trying to get a good sound with a low volume. He was doing it for Akros but there are masses of pictures of different cuts he made in the baffle to see what happened. Maybe you could try one of these. The best one was the surface was cut and bent to look something like shark gills.
