Aftermarket cans with cat

Hi folks, looking for some collective wisdom.

I have HP Corse cans. I'm not totally satisfied with their sound. Without the db killers they sound awesome but too loud. With the db killers, even after modification, they're ok but not great.

I'm looking for cans with a deep sound but not too loud. I was looking around for alternatives and saw that there are Akras and HPs with catalizers available. These would also have the advantage of not impregnating my clothes with exhaust smell, I suppose.

Does anyone have experience with these? I'm interested to know how they perform as far as power, sound and smell go.

Thanks in advance.

Most people ditch the cats to keep the exhaust freer flowing

Normal Akra cans without cats aren't that bad for noise, with baffles in they still sound ok but do a good job of bringing the noise down.

Dude, I`ll trade you my Leos for your HP corse.

I think a decent map will help with the stench. Run too rich and you'll stink.

Seems to me lime The best alternative would be The Akras without db killers. I've Heard that setup and it sounded decent. Only downsides are the cost, The smell and The "inferior looks" compared to the HPs, to m'y eyes anyway.

I'm wondering though how the HPs would sound without the DB killers, but with the catalyzer. Maybe they would retain their deep rumble but with a lower noise level, due to the cat. Anyone ever tried that setup. Back when I bought them I don't think they had a catalyzer option. It's not clear also if the catalyzer option ca be retrofited. Anybody here understand Italian?

As far as smell is concerned, I thought that all aftermarket cans were equal, since they don't have a catalyzer. I'm running the Akra map for slip-ons. Is there another mapping that would help cure the smell?

I only use the HPs without the DB killers when on track. On the street they're too loud. Last year there was a track where they had a noise limit. I was afraid I was going to be too loud without the DB killers. If my memory serves me right, the limit was 98 DB and I measured in at 96, so I was ok.

Last year I put my bike on the dyno at Picottes in Granby with the Akra map running Leos to see what the air fuel ratio was like and it was very rich.
Fast forward to today, Motobox, no flies ,shafts, etc., leos with baffles in (to keep SQ, Granby-Magog-Sherbrooke cops, and my neighbors happy), Tune ECU-08sd james-rallsy map and no more stink.
Can't really hear the pipes over half throttle as intake noise drowns them out

The HP pipes don't sound too loud from what your saying. What track ST-Eustache? Tremblant?

Akras are just as loud. There is a video on here somewhere showing DB levels of Akra and Leos.

The HP corse are beautifull, I wouldn't change, just get a custom map. There should be a few places on the island to choose from. If not there are a few places out here.

My offer for trade is still open

Hi WILLH,

I wasn't aware of that Motobox kit. Is it good? Does it provide extra power?
I'd like to hear that intake.

The sound check I was referring to was at Mecaglisse track. Have you ever tried it? They have a lot of track days. It's very tight and technical. Lots of fun with the SD. Other tracks I like are St-Eustache and St-Felicien.

The guys at Picotte have the hardware to update and fine tune the maps?

I don't know anybody in Montreal who can do that. I doubt that my KTM dealer (Duroy Racing) would get into that.

Do you know how much Picotte charges for the mod?

Thanks for the info.

Oh, by the way, the HPs without DB killers are quite a bit louder than the Akras. They sound awesome but very loud. With the DBKs, as I have modified them, they are probably just as loud as the Akras without DBKs.

IIRC Round Akras measure in at about 97db baffles in and 103 baffles out, that's with UK standard of track testing though with DB meter 50cm from end of can at a 45 degree angle, which may not be the same as your guys do it.

Akra map is pretty rich, custom map would be a good option
