Akra Titanium/Carbon transplant success!

Finally I had the time to rebuild my Akras with the carbon sleeves. I love them. They are 45mm shorter than originals so they don't stick out the back as much and they sound a bit louder and a bit deeper note. (I think)

I used pop rivets and the three threaded nutserts per side, (same as the original cans), but of course because they are shortened you couldn't fit the heat shields anyway - I only did it because I'd gone to the trouble of finding the nutserts and buying a tool to fit them.

I used some of the original Akra packing, (the wire mesh and steel wool), and the rest I replaced with new glass packing. All in all a pretty easy job if you have the patience and time.

Right Superdan. You don't even need new sleeves, just drill out the rivets, cut the sleeve and the inner perforated pipe and then reassemble. You use the outer bands as a guide for where to drill the holes through the freshly cut sleeve end but don't try to align these with the end cap holes. It's much easier to turn the end caps a few degrees and drill new holes through these. The other end which hasn't been cut you can just re-rivet through the old holes.

The hardest part is getting the outer bands tight between each rivet so that they don't bow and leave a gap. You have to use a lot of masking tape to hold them down in place as you drill.

Why do you need new titanium sleeves? If your old ones are damaged you can have my old Ti. sleeves. I was going to throw them out. They are fine except for some vibration wear where the straps held them on. Let me know and I'll post them to you.

Was asking more out of curiosity to be fair, I like this mod but a bit too much cost if I mess it up

You should hang onto the sleeves, I know Ducati Pete for one has damaged Akras (unless he fixed em) would save a fair few $$$ over the cost of new.
