Finally I had the time to rebuild my Akras with the carbon sleeves. I love them. They are 45mm shorter than originals so they don't stick out the back as much and they sound a bit louder and a bit deeper note. (I think)
I used pop rivets and the three threaded nutserts per side, (same as the original cans), but of course because they are shortened you couldn't fit the heat shields anyway - I only did it because I'd gone to the trouble of finding the nutserts and buying a tool to fit them.
I used some of the original Akra packing, (the wire mesh and steel wool), and the rest I replaced with new glass packing. All in all a pretty easy job if you have the patience and time.
