ah, timely. I'd also read that, a while ago, and I was looking at my [new sd] swingarm a few days ago and wondering if I should drill the holes, thinking it must be the same as the Adventure - and you've confirmed it. So, another job - a little job to do. I didn't do it because I worried about cracks developing from the drilled hole. And why don't they do it - at the factory? - Or is i that another...no question / don't ask thing.

When you say an inch from the weld, you mean from where the axle/adjuster thing is?

Did they say 4mm on advrider? ...I suppose anything less is...not big enough to drain.

Joe knows whare it gets in at.....

through and around those 4 bolts with the little cup type washers that hold the hugger/chain guard on... I had sealed mine up with silicone since new.

I will still drill a tiny hole in one side, this will be the only way to know other than total removal of the swingarm,

btw, this is not a new complaint here, I have seen this before... long time..

sometimes I do not know why I am so lame but if you take the black plastic cap off of the rh side of the swingarm you can look in there with a micro snake lite and

see if any water exists inside.. mine is dry but can easily see that the presence of water has been in it, a chain guide bolt thread inside thare is rusted.

hey cat ,no pressure washer. i learned my lesson a long time ago

joe, im not sure drilling the hole at an angle is a good idea. i think that may cause problems, might be removing to much meat. i went straight thru. the shortest route from a-b

this bit is like a Mosquito pecker 1/16th".... I will live with it now...

probably tore through some space/time rift and will try to get another colony established sos I take all of you wit me....

joe is a space traveler you know it dood..

er.... had to go straight through cos the stand was in the way.... lucky me.

funny, i drilled my holes on the side stand at first thinking thats the way the water would flow. but believe it or not, the was more water on the right hand side of the swing arm. dont ask me why. im just the weatherman. i just report the news

Reading what Doug had written about the water in the RH side made me nervous so I drilled an additional hole over there as well, no water at all..

then I tested that 10 mm hole that is in the inside if the swingarm up front next to the pipe, it is a blind hole,(goes no where) then I covered the RH

hole and blew compressed air through the LH side hole I drilled, all of the air is escaping easily in the front somewhere, not exactly sure where but my bet

is where ever it is escaping to is where the water is getting in from, now I am curious cos the forged parts that are welded on the spars prolly are solid (no internal holes).

so where can 160lbs per square inch of air pressure be escaping to or through? seems as if there is little resistance if any,

the next time I pull my rear tyre off I will figure this out men.

Hondas all came as standed with there swing arms allredy drild , with a 5'mm hole in them as well, I dont think the holes drild in the swing arm will caws to much stress on and sd it is bilt to take a lot of punishment .

Whether it comes in through the holes or is condensation, I still got a fair bit out when I drilled the holes.

for those guys who weld -
ever take a torch to regular ole metal on a normal day and watch the water come out of it ...

add a little hot and cold to the swing arm and i think the metal is going to sweat . not to say water isn't gettin in from some other source

Is there any photos of where to drill these holes?
