Aussie Warranty Information

Can any aussie owners let me know what the story is with the warranty on this bike...I am test riding a brand new run out model 06 tomorrow and was told the first service is AU $500. The valves have to be checked etc...etc...

I have a fantastically pedantic mechanic who doesn't rip me off and I wouldn't let anybody else work on my bikes...but I see here all about NO KTM Dealer service NO Warranty. Does this apply in Australia?. The other half's GSXR600 warranty only stipulates that genuine parts must be used and that the mechanic must be qualified. Would the KTM be the same?

Cheers,

Yep, 1000km service is about $400-500. Valve adjustment requires removal of the airbox and throttle bodies etc so they can get to the front cylinder. Then it's the same 'major' service at 15,000km and 30,000km. With a $200 service at every other 7,500km interval. (I actually do a minor every 5000km - that's just me - with majors at 15,000)

Forget what the yanks are saying about KTM dealer services and the warranty. It's different down here, well, it has been for me. As long as your guy is a qualified bike mechanic you won't have a drama, and service history has never even come into question for any of the problems I've had which have turned out to be regular things anyway. (Unless your dealership is full of assholes I imagine). I've had sensational support from KTM and I only get the major services done at KTM.

Good thinking with your mechanic - just ensure that any upgrades that are not as such recals are done at some stage by the KTM dealer. For example I had some clutch thingy done, water pump thingy, and the new 07 ECU map done (at the time of the second service) - my non KTM mechanic has no acces to this stuff...

Cheers and enjoy!
