Balancing throttle bodies

Hey sorry if I'm dragging up a dead topic here or something, but I need a bit of help;

My bike surges a lot @ the 3000-5000rpm range, and going through all the threads I see some of the more knowledgeable guys here refer to balancing the throttle bodies to help sort it out (along with exhausts, 02 sensors.....)

Now I searched for about an hour (search feature AND through the threads) but couldn't find anything re what this entails, or how, or anything technical, so hoping you could fill me in.

Need to do research because the one thread I found about it mentions needing a dealer to do it, and honestly, my dealer is a bit dodgy and I don't trust them!

Could I use a non-KTM trained mechanic who is known to be very reputable, or are there specific things the mechanic will need that only KTM provide?

Bike's bog standard, on 3500km and otherwise has loosened up nicely - And I'm mechanically inept .....

Thanks all

Thought only straight women rightly have menometers

Thanks for the feedback, Lockers - I'm going to chat to a buddy's mechanic (who he trusts) and see if he can do it.

Hopefully nothing untoward re the warranty, but what the dealer doesn't know............

Thanks again!

If you're asking what the IAP sensors are, I think they refer to Intake Air Pressure sensors, which are the sensors from which you remove the hoses to measure/balance the vacuum.

The locations are as Lockers states above, and there are pictures in the service manual.

If that wasn't what you were asking, forget all of the rubbish that I just wrote!

Smurf and all, PLEASE take what I say with a grain of salt ! the yellow paint is for purposes of detecting when it has been tampered with.

At the auto dealers I worked at, we could reserve the right to non-warranty cos of someone tampering with things that are marked with this paint.

In the absence of this scenario, this is normally thare also to tell the factory trained technician to not jack with it.

cos it is a factory set item and should not be manipulated, just my 2 cents.

But it's not a mental deficiency. I'm a bit more concerned with this superduke, ...but... I learnt my lesson already. From 30 years ago. It's ingrained in me. And not much to change my mind. I'll take my chances. (with something going wrong, not taking a chance on going to dealer - unless I stay there with it.)

For *sakes, they couldn't even get the registration right, my new bike is still without license and and I got the dealer to check what they'd done after the licensing office kicked me out (without being able tell me what exactly was wrong, that was an AA problem,) and the dealer said it was all right. But now today I found out (from a firend of a friend of a friend who works there) that the dealer (and this is KTM SA) had done something wrong - although registered it to my name, they'd left it registered as dealer stock/manufacturer stock or something.

jehadoe,

aren't yee the 15 year mechanic and the one who claimed his bike was running superior and didn't need the tb's balanced? you also put up quite an argument for not touching them. I don't get you. You are a 15 year mechanic and you printed lockers instructions and took them to another mechanic who you don't trust? You are truly one strange dude. Ever had an IQ test?
