Batt. Issue Fix?

Hi guys,

My SD is showing the Soft 3.2 and Dat 10.1 on miss starts now. Original battery with 1 year sitting in the dealer and 2 years with me on the road with it. It first started after I had let the SD sit for a couple weeks after getting my SMC but after cleaning all connections and charging the batt. it went away. Now it seems to be doing it more and more. The charging system/rectifier seem to be ok after checking them with a good multi-meter. After researching the forums here and other moto help forums I have come to believe that the battery is coming to the end of its life span. I will confirm the voltage drop under start load when my girlfriend is at my house next time to thumb the start button and I have the multi-meter on the batt.

I am wondering if anyone has tried some Di-electric grease on all the connections to help maintain good connections. Also has anyone installed the new Lithium battery from Shorai? Shorai is promising great things and wondering if they are true. You can get it in a much higher cold cranking amperage than the OEM battery, it is much lighter, they say it wont discharge for a year and it should last 5-7 years instead of 2-3. It isn't much more than the OEM but at this time 4-10-11 they are all sold out of their online store and I can only find one shop that carries them close to Houston Tx. I will call them tomorrow and see if they have any in stock. I know from RC car racing that Li-Po batteries are awesome and should do what Shorai promised. I even thought about building a pack for the SD from RC Li-Po packs but the problem there is the charging system has to be specific or you end up with a very hot and exploding battery. YouTube "Li-Po explosion" and "Sony Laptop recall" and you can see what happens when a Li-Po is over charged.

Thanks in advance...

Looking at the Shorai as well. Can't justify pulling 1yr old battery out and tossing it though. When needed will definitely be going Shorai!

Check the negative connection on the battery, they tend to be stressed and can snap. Trouble is, it doesnt really move much, so sometimes it makes the connection and you will get a reading that it is charging but when riding the bike (moving around) it will break connection and drain the battery.

Whip it out and examine it mate. This is what happened to me.
