Best battery i ever owned

Just installed a Ballistic Li-Fe battery - absolutely amazing, 1/10 of the weight and far more power. also had a chance to test it, kick-stand switch problem 200km from home forced me to restart the bike about 20 time in 15 min - no loss of performance whatsoever

i was a bit paranoid, with SD being a big twin and all, and being stranded before, i went for the 12 cell, rather then recommended 8-cell.

*** EDIT***
it seems i was too quick to praise...
the battery is now dead. to their credit, Ballistic was very nice about it, and new one is on the way.

Very cool. I'm very tempted. What are you going to do to keep it charged up?

It sounds like you can do nothing and it will be fine unless you have something that draws it down on the bike. Absent an alarm, I guess that's just the clocks?

I have several buddies running the Shorai batteries as well...they are all Lithium Iron type and weigh significvaltly less than the stock ones. I'll be trading mine out when it is nearing end of life.

Only problem I know of are weak battery posts. They sold out and are probably having supply issues (Japanese parts).

Quite happy with my Shorai

Balisticparts battery is 100 grams lighter than Shorai (730 vs. 830); 30 more CCA's (240 vs. 210) for our application and just 7 dollars more. Thinking of ordering Ballisticparts today. 3-year guarantee as well.

There is a good article on these types of batteries in RRW this month. Prices ranging $150 to $350 and weights ranging 680 grams to 845 grams. They compare to $70 and 3527 grams for a GSXR 1000 battery.

Apparently they rock unless it is freezing out. I worry about draining one if the bike sits too long, but am likely to switch. I've still got the original battery in my 2007!

after shipping to Canada (no duties for us) came out to be ~$220CAD, for the 12 cell.

Ballistic website (see 1st post) has a long list of dealers, though all appear to be in N.America.

I am going to try the 8-cell in the 990 and if it doesn't have the beans--I'll transfer it to my 250 XCF-W.

ok, so after a week of standing - it has been pissing rain here for over a week - the bike did not start... the battery appears to be damaged, it has charge, but the bike acts like there is no battery in there at all. charging it allowed for a start, then everything started flickering, bike died, again all dark, nobody home...

I contacted Ballistic, it took 8 days for them to reply, but they did, they asked to ship the battery back to them so they can examine it, and if it is faulty - and it is faulty - they will send me another one.

not sure what to say here... i hope this is a single faulty unit, not a larger problem... i searched various forums/sites, talked to people - noone who used those had problems, or a single bad thing to say about them, so hopefully i'll have a replacement soon, and hopefully no problems... will report back once i know something

well, Ballistic was nice and quick about it, new battery is on the way, with assurances that i should not have any problems with it. should be here in 4 days, assuming our customs will not hold it for 10days, like they did last time... spoke to another person who uses an 8-cell on his Multistarda - he says he never had a problem, and praises the battery as best he ever used...

I love the weight and power of these batteries, if this one works as well as everyone is saying it will, i'll be swapping the batteries on all my bikes... i'm optimistic, but i'll wait and see how this one performs 1st
