Bike Bench is best thing

This bench is definitely the best thing that I've made lately. Knocked it together in about two hours from $50. worth of wood. Its very simple but I indulged with locking wheels (already had those) and an under table shelf. It originally also had a wood chock for the front tyre, but that only fit my Yamaha so for the Sd I replaced it with a metal clamp that I got on sale for five dollars (hard to see in the photo). With four tie downs it holds the bike solid as a rock. I put on a complete new exhaust system the other day, drained and replaced all brake and clutch fluids, changed the oil, replaced a signal light, put in a new battery, etc....all relatively easily and without having to crawl around on the cold damp concrete floor. Standing up and working at chest height is just great! Its so much easier!! Someday, when they go on sale, and I can afford it, I'd like to get a proper hydraulic version but until then, this bench will do nicely.

I guess the big question is, how did you get it up there in the first place.

And are those tiny looking wheels gonna hold out, I have some locking wheels on a table I've been piling bathroom stuff on while Im doing it and they already feel like they've gone a bit unstable.

You have got me thinking about knocking a platform of some sort together though

I was going to do something just for the coolant thing

Im thinkn the exact same thing as Jamie - do you jus pik the bike up an plonk it on there? and them little wheelz? they must be bendin?

The wheels are actually very sturdy and a bit bigger than they look in the photo. I just happened to have them...if I was to buy wheels expressly for this project I probably would get bigger ones. I put the bike up there the same way I put it in the back of my truck...I run it up a steel ramp. I put the front wheel in the chock/clamp thing and that holds it until I tie it down...a second person can make it easier but is not absolutely necessary.

I'm guessing it's a pretty decent sized ramp then, not like the only just wider than the back wheel type we use in the UK to load our vans.

No...just the regular narrow ramp..

Garage engineering at its best!

For those thinking of doing something similar; It's enough if the bottom of the bike's are around your knee height.
Then get one of these:

Well done! It's so much easier to work on the SuperDuke when it's higher up.
