Brake upgrades and other ramblings...

Hi all,

I have just received the twin piston rear caliper and mount I ordered from Ebay UK. It appears the caliper is identical to the Adventure one which fits the SD however the Caliper and mount I bought were off a 990 Supermoto... lets take a chance I thought...how different could it be

So I broke out the tools and got to it....everything is sweet BUT....

The factory rear caliper mount is perhaps 8-10mm thicker than the replacement one that came with the twin piston caliper....other than that everything lines up great...brake lines are good, caiper mount slides into channel on swingarm, pads are positioned well on the disc.... it's just the mount that is too narrow.

I was thinking of going to an engineering place and getting a round spacer machined up out of aluminium to take up the 8-10mm difference in thickness....do you think that would be suitable?

Oh and I already tried to swaap the calipers on the mounts...the mounting hole is out by about 5mm

I use my brake a lot too bud, I also found the SD one not the best.
The one on my FZ6 was better to my mind!

I adjusted the lever so it sat a bit higher, gave me a wee bit better feel for it.
Had thought of fitting a replacement, let me know how you get on with it please bud.

Ok...Caliper mount is at the machinists this morning being modified and a new spacer is being made to suit. Thanks to KTM-worship for all the help through pm's it's greatly appreciated!

Please Note:
If you use the KTM Adventure caliper mount it's not an issue...the bracket is the same as the SD, it's a bolt on fit. Mine came from a supermoto which must have a wider rear wheel or something, so i needed to get a spacer made. Hopefully I will get it back today so will post my thoughts soonish

oh and Aegis it's a dissapointment having such awesome brakes on the front and then such shitty rear brakes...it is hands down the worst of any bike i have ridden...I have bled it numerous times, changed fluid completely, adjusted lever etc....hmmm nope still sucks!
