There is a recent thread on here about Rs burning oil and some mention of a recall regarding a problem with restricted oil ways. Can't find it for you mate but I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction.

Shadethechangingman here in the UK has an R and he's using oil quite a bit at the moment. This is going to make him paranoid - but today his bike was definitely puffing out oil vapour on full chat changing from 5th to 6th at high speeds. And he always seems to be topping up with oil.

All the KTMs seem to use oil I have an SDR with 3k miles and it uses about a quart every 1000-1500 miles. This seems to be the norm and will inprove with more miles.

Yup, just the same as mine. It's burning it up a lot.

I also had the oil sensor thingy, dealer replaced it and bent the connector to angle away from the silicon hoses. He said when it gets hot the silicon hose gets more conductive and therefore it lights up. It's been perfect since he did that mod.

I'm currently monitoring oil usage for them to see if warranty will cover work to reduce it. If it was guaranteed to improve wi age I'd be ok with it, but I'm getting thru a LOT! He has checked oil pressure and she is tight as a drum, not losing a single drop to leaks.

Bic, that vaoour is fuel i think...Klincks does it a lot and i know its not oil cos it would be all over my visor....same as you following me...it's fuel and as such evaporates.

I was under the impression that KTM used mineral for the run in and then switched to fully synthetic after that. Am I wrong?

KTM provide the bikes with Fully Synthetic Motorex from the get go. That's why it takes longer for the rings to seat and oil consumption to decrease to more or less normal levels.

mine used a fair bit of oil at first 2 - 2.5 litres between changes....
but from around 12000 mls + it has only used the amount from upper to lower levels on the sight tube in the same distance...it was carefully run in and then quickly built up to hard/firm use since...
i figure these motors take a lot of bedding in as do the large bmw twins.....good luck peace
