I replaced my chain n sprox at 20k miles.
I've got a 16/40 combo now, 6th gear/5000rpm is 75mph, 6000rpm is 90mph, I think top whack is 138mph indicated (I've not done it though).
16/40 kicks ass. nothing more to say.

Hey folks-
Thanks for all of the input. All of this information helped me make a decision to go with another 16 front but a 41 rear (sprocket, that is). In that my rear sprocket is in bad shape after only 12,000 miles, I'll probably try one of those Super Sprox's on the back...
