I always wanted to install better airbox so I ordered one from local composite workshop. Technician measured the space under tank and made the mold for this custom airbox. Results are here:

It is designed to use standard airfilter WA6383 available from most of the car parts shop and also ebay.
I cant say that it adds many hp-s (not dyno tested yet) but it makes my sd run much better and smoother + i can buy new airfilter if i want ( about 6 EUR), maintenance is easier and etc.

Price of this airbox was 185EUR, he can produce more if anyone is interested and the price for quantities more then 5 will be cheaper. Made in Estonia, price includes all taxes in EU.

If anyone is interested i can share his contacts
very good mate.. good to see someone doing the custom job.It looks like it could produce some serious HP with the updraft setup there.

I wonder if it could take a K&N of some sort.

and for that money you cant go wrong... well done.

I too am working on an airbox at the moment so i can really appreciate it... now go top up your coolant

Air temp sensor is mounted through the bottom lid of the airbox. The top lid can be made without the crank vent plug.

Any idea what kind of price are we looking at if we get 5 UK guys in as a bulk buy?
If the results are similar to MH and DNA (can be inferior they just need to be better then oem box dna or k'n ) for the right price you can count me in

Early SDs have a different tank design. Later models have more fuel capacity, so space is a lot tigther under the tank.

Btw: This air box is sold in Europe since 2009:

The filter is a short K&N fitting under the tank of all 990-V2, from SD over SM up to Adventure. The cover is made from laser-cutted stainless steel. So it does not look so nice als cover made out of an ally billet, but on the other hand, it is easy to manufacture, so the price keeps within resonable limits: Complete air box kit, everything inside, ready to install - € 200,-- inkl. sales tax, free to your door within EC.

Of course this air box is dyno-tested: side by side, same motorcycle, same day, same dyno, one dyno session with this air box installed, one with pure and open velocity stacks in the atmosphaere - same output. ´This should give a prove that this box oofers the engine what it need for optimal power production.
