What are you trying to gain? What you going to do with it? Think "Right tool for the job at hand". SE's have 21" front dirt wheel / tyres. They cut into the gravel / dirt roads. SM's have 17" wheels but more travel than the SD. A 17" tyre floats on top of the gravel. Not a good thing. But a 17" works better on pavement. I guess you are having a hard time finding an SE? I bet the frame rake is different from SD and SE. My adventure type bike is a 99 Triumph Tiger and I would like to loose the extra weight the SE would bring to the table. You might save a lot of time and trouble by selling the SD and get a KTM Adventure. More Adventures out there than the SE, and they are still making the Adventures. Another thing to try would be to, first, buy a Adventure front fork, wheel and brake assy and swap it out on the SD. That way you can test it and always back track and put the SD back together when you realise your Frankinstine dream is not the dream you intended. Me, I want an SE or Adventure in addition to my SD, not instead of. Lot's of conversion bikes on the ADV site under "Some assembly required" Almost bit on the 650 Ninja conversion myself. Want to hold out for the real deal....KTM Adventure...Almost pulled the triger on a Blue and Orange
