De-catting the standard pipes

Whilst I appreciate the style of Akro's etc on the SD, I have to admit I like the style of the standard pipes in as much that they follow the lines of the bike well, plus (Evo's aside) they don't look as dated as aftermarket cans.

Does anyone know if it's possible to 'de-cat' the standard pipes - ie open & gut the standard pipes? A friend of mine had this done a few years ago on an MV Augusta, also one of the writers in Bike magazine has had his standard pipes 'modified' on his MT01(? - Big Yam V-twin thing).

In time I would like to retain my pipes but have the cat removed, presumably this will give a little power increase plus loosing weight & heat from the cat.

Our only hope is Termingoni. The have pipes for the new R1 that are like the SD stock.

In the row of 4 pictures, the 3rd picture from the left shows an SD with modified standard cans - as shown by the bigger outlets. Don't know anymore about it but its an interesting thought and worth investigating further. I agree none of the aftermarket cans look right for the SD.

Styling aside which is down to personal preference I've just fitted the Akra evo system. The standard system is unbelievably heavy. I also removed the rear foot hangers and weighed the removed items: pipe & hangers: 42lbs.........

So Akras are "Sans Baffles" So it's just another one of those Loud motorcycles.

Now (bear with me). Everyone knows Subconsiously that numberplates are a certain size. They see them every day so a smaller one looks out of the ordinary. So easy to spot.
You can turn down the throttle when Police are about and you may get a knowing acknoledgement.
The Wee numberplate is there asking for a Pull in this New Nanny State.
And you get a lecture on what would happen If your bike was stolen and the police couldn't read the number of the bike they saw that fitted your description. So no confirmation and No return.
