DIY Servicing

Firstly...........This is a great site with what seems a good bunch of blokes
and I find it very informitave. I've learnt some things I would'nt
have if not for finding it. I like it here.

My 06 was due for a 7500km service, so I phoned my dealer for a price.
"Around the $500 mark" I was informed. Pretty excessive for what is little more than an oil and filter change.

I did it myself as per the book with the exception of bleeding the forks.
I've never heard of bleeding forks at every service.

I got 2 spare oil filters with the bike so only had to buy oil.

So the sevice cost me a little over $100 and a total of about 4 hrs
of my time.
I would imagine the dealer would do this 3 times quicker than me anyway.

I'll have to take it in for the next one nut the savings will go a fair way to
buying some nice goodies for the bike.

Gillberg, you are a great bloke and it is ambitious for you to dig in like that,

joe has his hat off to you and says good job.

besides now you will think differently of the beast as you know her better cos of it.

to familiarize yerself to her, to care for her,, an intimate moment this is.

this bikes remind me of a horse, they have personality.

Wtf?? Who's your dealer gillberg?? My 30,000km service was under $600 but that included all fluids changed (coolant, clutch fluid oil etc.) and 7 hours labour for adjusting valve shims which really is a big job better done by the shop or someone with the shim kit. The 7500km service was $180 last time I had it done but I'd expect it to be less than $300.

That said I actually do the 7500km services myself every 5000km then take my bike to the shop for the 15,000 intervals.
